    Laying the Deck Questions

Wow, seems like yesterday mine looked just like that. I ran a kerosene heater in addition to my heat pump and was able to get my shop up to 89 degrees. Had my wife turn it on about 3 hours before I got home from work. I just jacked my trailer up as high as I was comfortable going - you don't...

    17ft Bayliner Capri bowrider project

You sound pretty convinced that your blocking is good, so go for it. We're not there to see or feel what you see and feel. A cradle would be the safest way. I did mine with no cradle but left the hull on a bunk trailer and did the gutting in 2 stages where I only pulled/replaced half the...

    17ft Bayliner Capri bowrider project

Find the HIN. The last 2 digits are the year. It might work, but since it's already off the trailer, a more sure method would be to build a cradle to give more support to the bottom and sides of the hull and prevent splay or hull warpage. Since you're not planning to pull the cap, you may not...

    Inboard replacing

Something like the Davis Unified Ignition box that's $150? Thinking I may want to add a rev limiter to my setup this year.

    j1171 distributor points?

Buy a new Mercruiser brand sensor. It's enclosed instead of open like the old one you have and is much more robust. Do not buy an off-brand sensor!

    1972 ranger fuel cell

It ain't gonna dry. Floor must come up to replace the foam, which means you've gotta replace the floor. You'll probably find rotten stringers, bulkheads, and transom too, and it would be a shame to do all that work to the floor and foam and not fix the rot.

    Question about resin

I would just stick with polyester. Before I did my boat, I heard all the "negatives" for polyester and "positives" for epoxy, but after working with it, I think polyester has way more positives than the internet gives it credit for.

    Replacing plywood with solid wood?

I used Sapele mahogany at a few key points in my build (like engine mounts) - resin and glass adhered just fine. It's how mine was originally built and there was no noticeable difference during the "gut" phase in how the original 35 year old glass was stuck to the original plywood vs. original...

    Gelcoat Application Questions

Scott, what about using something like 3M PPS cup liners when spraying gelcoat? I'm just wondering if not having to clean out a cup every time is worth the added cost. I already use PPS when spraying contact cement. For that I think they are worth it because that stuff dries quick and they...

Transom plate / Gamble housing through bolts (Alpha1 Gen1)

I just did mine and didn't use any sealant. Only had it in the water about 2 hours so far, but no leaks.

2021 Splash of the Year Voting

@Meames1 😂 I was going to do the same thing and change my vote from you to Mark at the last minute when it looked like he and I were going to tie and you were 5 votes behind, but was also fearful of upsetting anyone. That's two voters who admit to having considered changing votes to...

2021 Splash of the Year Voting

Voting is closed now, and I had already voted for @Meames1. I am willing to concede to Mark's project as the winner, if that's possible.

2021 Splash of the Year Voting

@Reserector_ sewed his own upholstery and I paid a guy to do mine. Someone vote for him so he can get the plaque he deserves!

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Upholstery guy came by yesterday and brought his tools with him to make the sun pad and the port side panel fit the boat. I totally forgot to take pictures of the process, but the upholstery work should be done with the exception of me getting it installed in the boat. While the boat was out...

    Which carpet glue?

Correct. You don't need much. You only get one shot at alignment, so take your time.
