How much slip does your prop have ?

I agree that if everything meets your requirements, why bother? But my professional career required me to collect data and justify my raise, so for me it was natural to apply science to my hobbies as well.

How much slip does your prop have ?

If my bow light does not go above the horizon, that's good enough for me.

How much slip does your prop have ?

As a Professional Engineer, all this stuff interests me immensely. However, I MUST have data, and that's what I like to collect. The data I posted above is quantifiable. Here's some more: Hole shot - 3 seconds to plane. The changes reduced the time to 30 mph from 9 seconds to 7 seconds. Bow...

How much slip does your prop have ?

You are absolutely right that the proper propping tool is rpm. I just found it interesting that doing it also improved the slip. Is there a correlation? I dunno.

How much slip does your prop have ?

Welllll.....sort of. Low prop slip equates to full use of your HP, plus optimum speed and good fuel economy. Now, if you are a racing boat that NEEDS HIGH speed, then all bets are off. My SeaRay / 150 Merc OB came from the factory raised 2 notches on the transom, running a base aluminum prop...

    Time to replace tires?

I had a 1984 tandem axle TeeNee and it came with auto tires. They were 13", B78 or something like that. The boat never went more than 2 miles to the launch ramp. I had them for 20+ years with no cracking or any other issues. I know I should have changed them earlier, but up to that point I...

    Time to replace tires?

Back in the 1960's all the trailer tires I ever owned got flat spots over Winter and needed some driving to get them round again. They were all bias ply. Move forward to the 2000's and I don't see that any more. Did they get better? I dunno.

    Time to replace tires?

In 1984 I bought a brand new TeeNee trailer and it came with bias ply Goodyear auto tires. They were the best trailer tires I ever owned.

    Time to replace tires?

I don't remember if it was 15 or 20 years ago. Regardless, GY Endurance was crap back then. As I remember they were made in China, and had a bad rep. I could be wrong, but buying ST tires has been a crap shoot for 40 years.

    Time to replace tires?

ST tires have printing on the sidewalls that say, to the effect, "don't put these on a vehicle that carries passengers". What more need be said? My son's 5 year old garage kept rig was on vacation and both tires literally disintegrated at 65 mph. It's not just UV. Keeping them at full...

    Time to replace tires?

If you see sidewall cracking, the tires should have been replaced several years ago. ST tires are poor to begin with. They age out before they wear out. A good rule is to replace them every 4 years, period.

New SeaRay owner (Sundancer 250) with some basic questions

You really need both. If you insure with BoatUS, Towboat is free. They have very competitive rates. Many other insurance companies include towing insurance as well. The kicker may save your life. The insurance will get you home.

New SeaRay owner (Sundancer 250) with some basic questions

I don't use the integral tank. It also has a remote tank fitting and I have a 3 gallon. It will push my SeaRay at 6 mph, which is the no-wake speed in the Erie Canal.

New SeaRay owner (Sundancer 250) with some basic questions

Panther makes both types. Mine is fixed, which is what I wanted and needed because of the swim platform. But if you have a swim platform, a retractable won't work. If the ladder is behind the door, leave it that way. If not, don't move it because having the motor behind the door will make...

New SeaRay owner (Sundancer 250) with some basic questions

    2. I have put dozens of pole mounts on many boats. My personal preference is the "Fish-On" (brand) and they make several types of mounts. My Boston Whaler has 4 of them mounted on rails. My SeaRay has flush mounts on the side deck at the gunnels. Both are capable of merely holding a pole...

    Lesson learned

I personally drain the water, pull the TS, fill with AF and all is good. Did that with Glycol. The first Summer when I saw green water on the first splash, I thought that ain't good. In future years I ran it on the muffs in Spring and let it run in the grass. In later years I used -50 pink...

    Lesson learned

The issue started when someone said they didn't pull the TS. I didn't say it was wrong to do that, I merely said that the manual said to do that. Many of us on this forum don't think it's necessary as long as the water is drained. Mercury's comments were not directed at freeze damage, but...

    Lesson learned

Your reference was for a V6, years 1983-93. I don't dispute what they recommended in later years because I never read a newer book. I'm really getting forgetful in my old age. As I said I gave the manual to the guy that bought ,my boat, but I just remembered that I also had a FULL Shop...
