    Lesson learned

I bought the boat brand new in 1984 and that manual is what came with the boat. I just looked thru my boat files to scan the winterization pages, but then I remembered that I gave it away when I sold the boat. Since there were no internet or U-Tube videos back then, and I always did 90% of my...

Hahaha. I am guilty of some of the mistakes, but they were deliberate to point out the lack of edumacation of some posters. But then again, I admit that maybe some are not really stoopid, or uneducated, , but don't use spellcheck, or simply don't care what they post.

    Lesson learned

My 1984 Mercruiser's OWNER's MANUAL said to drain the water from the easily identifiable plugs, and then pull the TS and fill the empty block with AF. Of course then you need a new TS gasket. The issue here is that everybody has an idea how to do things, but nobody reads manuals any more...

    Engine height

The pics don't show the complete bracket, and the angle of the AV plate vs keel is not clear. From what there is it looks like a short shaft motor on a long shaft transom. Cobbing the oil system with odd parts may not be best. Pre-mix is a simple reliable method.

    Illegal or not???

Two and a half times the HP is only one problem. Adding the center console probably also exceeded the weight capacity. Glad you don't go boating anywhere near me. My local river has had enough accidents already.

Sorry if our comments upset you. But your data does not compute. If an outboard motor is fully down, the boat will not do a wheelie. It will do the Opposite of a wheelie. The most helpful thing I suggested was for you to provide pictures of your setup, or a video of your wheelie. It's very...

Did you actually look at the motor when you thought it was "down"? If you truly are doing a wheelie when the motor is down, you got some real big problems. Short shaft on a long shaft or visa versa? Some horrible weight balance? Next time deliberately put the motor all the way down and start...

    Modifying a 1975 Trail-R-Craft

That's true. The brand that you could buy for 200 bucks may not be a smart buy.

    Modifying a 1975 Trail-R-Craft

Good call about the wrong way winding. There should be a level wind plate on top that rests on the cable. If its would upside down or the plate is missing it won't wind level and the cable will self-destruct. Looks like someone painted that winch black. Powerwinch makes a quick detachable...

    Modifying a 1975 Trail-R-Craft

I believe the plug is pretty universal for them. The same one has fit all of my units going back many years. If you don't have the handle, a Crescent wrench should work in a pinch. When I had only 1 towcar I had the cable wired right to the battery, with the plug in the trunk. It worked for...

    Modifying a 1975 Trail-R-Craft

A 235 is REALLY OLD. My 1984 was a 912. The X12 models have been in use for at least that long. Last year I replaced my jetski winch with a used 712 for 200 bucks. Not that I needed it, but just because I'm old and don't want to crank any more.....LOL. Before you pursue the 235 google...

    Modifying a 1975 Trail-R-Craft

I put a Powerwinch (brand) electric winch on in 1984. Had one on every boat since then. It's a joy to launch and retrieve my boats.

    Lost Remote Control

I just googled it and in 30 seconds I found that it is no longer in production. I guess you will need to stand by the winch and press the buttons, or if you need remote, buy another winch.

    Boat budget question

Your wife must have some kind of hobbies that she pursues. Can't you use those expenses as a comparison? In my case, my wife has horses. I could buy a new boat every year and it would even come close to the board, Ferrier and vet prices.

Thinking of trading deck boat for jet boat

Old story. Some time ago Seadoo put on "rudders" that we aficionados called "training wheels". Kinda stoopid, but they worked even in neutral. Today, the current type PWC has 2 levers, port and starboard, that control forward and reverse. With a little practice you can turn the boat on a...

Thinking of trading deck boat for jet boat

I have a plastic rake with a telescoping handle that fits in the bow compartment. Just need to bend over and you can feel the weeds on the intake grate and they come right off easy peasy. I have been jetskiing in the Niagara and Erie for 30 years and luckily have never sucked up a line or...

Should I buy a boat without a survey?

I don't think that really matters. Can you insure a destroyed boat, and if so what would the rate be?

Thinking of trading deck boat for jet boat

My son bought a Yami with twins. The engines are the same as my Yami PWC. Bullet-proof engines and easy to service and winterize, but everything has to be done twice. In his case he is in calm waters, so it's a dream. IMHO, not an Erie boat. (I have boated Erie since 1968)

Should I buy a boat without a survey?

A Denmark boat with a salvage title? Any boat with a salvage title. A $40K boat with a salvage title? What does you insurance agent say? Personally I am old and can't run that fast.
