    Well----70 PSI is low.-----But do a simple test.-----Remove sparkplugs 1 at a time.----Put a few drops of fuel in each cylinder.----Crank it over and report what happens.-----I When I worked on these on a regular basis they were easy to start.----Have a 63 model in the storage shed.

    Picked one of those up at a dealer once.----Yes that piece could be stuck in a reed valve.

    You need the relays.----Possibly found used at dealers or E-bay.

    You are looking at the " cool " side of the block.----Scoring will likely be worse on the exhaust side.---Take it apart and evaluate / learn about these motors.------Finding a good used block is easy.-----At least easy for me.-----Find----aomci----website and post a wanted ad there.

    That is a totally different motor.---A 60 degree looper style.-----Thermostats are easy to work on, found under a cover at the top of the cylinder head.

    Remove bypass covers ( 4 screws each ) report what you see on pistons / rings.----Could be a blown head gasket as well.----As I say many times ---" it is so easy to trouble shoot " these simple reliable motors.

    If you are only getting 4400 RPM with a 17" pitch there is something wrong with your motor !!-----You need to do some testing / inspection.-----Post compression numbers ( #2 ) is often low.-----Does tell tale hose come off the top of the block or off the side on exhaust cover?
