    It supplies 12 volts to the key.----That 12 volts is used to activate starter solenoid.----Activate primer solenoid valve.----And any instrument relating to the motor.

    Did you install a new water pump impeller when you bought this boat ?----Did you test the overheat horn ?------The compression on 2 cylinders is MUCH lower.-----Just 22 bolts to take the head off.----That will tell the story.----Nothing else needs to be done at this time.----Take the head off.

    Sounds like motor did not get used for many years ( cracked coils ) and you would be wise to install a new water pump impeller.

    If 4400 RPM is maximum with 17" pitch , there is something wrong with the motor.----Find a shop with a dynamometer or test prop and have power output checked !!

    Is there a disc on the engine block with numbers ??----That part # has been superceeded.----Yes that superceeded part # works.-----If motor has original graphics post picture of the cowling.----Don't forget to check thermostat and replace water pump impeller.

    Always start with a compression test.----Post the numbers.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on both leads.-----Does the manual fuel pump go hard?-----Water pump impeller needs to be replaced about every 5 years.

    You ran the motor dry on the ramp ?----Big mistake if you did.-----Step #1 is to post the compression numbers here.------If this motor sat for a long time with fuel in the carburetors , they could be gummed up.-----Clean the carburetors before your next launch attempt.----Replace water pump...

    Timing on these motors does not go out of adjustment.-----Idle timing is the point where throttle plates open.-----Timing where the engine idles does not matter !-----Do a compression test for future reference.----Post your numbers.

    There are 2 separate crankcases.------I believe 4 reeds to each crankcase.-----And reed valves have nothing to do with compression in the cylinder.

    Open low speed mixture screws 1/8th turn at a time and test at the lake.-----You MUST install a new impeller.

    If that is a vertical throttle shaft , then yes they can leak there.------Not a simple fix to stop that.
