    Need to review your math.-----24:1 is more oil than 50:1.-----Need to understand the concept of why oil is mixed with gas.----Need to understand the concept of lubrication in a 2 stroke engine !!

    The original mix was 24:1------But today you will get many different opinions as to what will be proper lubrication for that fine motor.----As previously indicated to you it has a bronze bushing ( if still original ) on the wrist pin.----And that is a known weak point !

    My wild guess is that wires from CDI / powerpack to the coils were switched by a club fisted individual.-----Orange / blue stripe should be on the top.----What else do you know about this motor ?----How did it run for you last season ?----Post the compression test numbers here.

    I am also looking to get a local Mennonite shop to see about reproducing parts.----Should not be hard to cast that bracket in SOLID aluminum to then machine bolt holes and hole for the starter.----Should be able to produce that at 1/4 the market price !!

    I was at a dealer / boat shop a few years ago.-----Found an 18 HP in the scrap bin.----Had the electric start on it.----Free to take it away.-----Keep your eye on Craiglist / facebook etc and see if a $100 donor motor comes along.

    It is the golden rule of supply and demand.-----Those with the supply are doing the demanding.-----Or I always say -----" Farmers do not have to pay cows to chew the grass.----Why do they want so much for milk and cheese " ? -----Your location ?

    It is a right hand prop.----There are some websites where YOU can look up the part #----Hint---a 1973 model 9.5 HP might use the same prop.

    Choke must be closed to start a motor.-----Water must be 6 or 8" above the impeller when testing in a bucket.----Sound like it is not in your case.

    Swap wires from powerpack to the coils and test to see if it is a bad coil.----And 9 out of 10 times a new powerpack is the fix.

    Facts----The Magneto on a 1960 model 10 HP is ultra simple / reliable / easy and economical to maintain.-----Why it even has a hole in the flywheel that allows you to clean and set the breaker points without removing the flywheel.----Gives you a warning via a sore shoulder when it needs...

    You have to be sure/ repair why it failed.----Or it will fail again.-----??---Computer read out might be helpful.----Must check cooling system and computer controlled oiling too.

    And make 100% sure you understand how important it is to set the shift rod height.----Failure to do so can add to your headaches.----And on a 1980 model V-4 gearcase ( if seals are original ) I would insist on a seal kit for the lower unit.----Repair cost there due to water in the oil can add up...
