    Need help with Johnson outboard

Jake is a pro. Your spark tester might look like this: About $10 at an auto parts store. If water temp. seems to trigger issues, consider replacing the t.stat -- didn't see that listed. Carb cleaning isn't rocket science, but have to be thorough. To me, that mean complete disassembly...

    Mercruiser 305

I run a 1980 305 MIE inboard in an F26 Trojan. It’s original with a lot of hours (no rebuilds that I am aware of). I use it gently. But it has never run close to the rated 4400 rpm at WOT, and that should probably be addressed. I get about 17 mph at 3000 rpm, but that’s about it for both...

2 hp evinrude wont stay running

When the coil laminations are dead on flush with the mounting bosses on each side, the gap will be correct (no binding). Additionally, you need to check the intensity of the spark produced by the magneto — need an open air adjustable tester like this:

New Boat Owner..Seeking help, outboard starts only sometimes

like this one: If you are doing a lot of cranking (that's turning the engine over without it starting), you may be wearing down the battery to the point where the motor is not turning over fast enough.

    Vintage twin's or modernish single?

can do a period motor with a matching kicker, as an option (a get-me-home motor). Sounds like you are a saltwater boater -- good idea to get freshwater motors at the outset, then just maintain. btw, the '57 would be a 35:

    Evinrude 6hp Fisherman throttle / fuel question....video

What? Me wrong?? here's a pic of a new one: Think a middle ground would be to do some clean up on the one you have (like to carefully polish the tip with 600 grit we/dry on a piece of glass or other hard surface -- get some of the wear rings out and clean it up.) As you will have the carb...

1973 Johnson 115 weak tell tale

Sometimes Motor Cranks, Sometimes it doesn't - Runs great when it gets started - Why?

posted a pic of one of my project motors on an earlier thread, but has a solenoid setup that might be of interest. Pos from battery to left large post, pos to starter at right large post . This solenoid is grounded from a small post to the battery (neg). The negative wire from the motor ground...

    is this a long shaft?

Can get crazy if you like with an auxiliary motor on the Carver, helm and all. I've been using the Yachtwin (recommend elec start for reaching over a transom). Also got a little crazier and picked up a 9.9 reg shaft that followed me home, so can switch out lower units if I want -- might work...

getting an invalid certificate warning... not sure what's up

Been getting a warning re. bttrack.com, as described in some info I copied from a google inquiry (below). I don't know if this is an issue or not -- sounds scary, but maybe not something to be concerned about??? (Safari pop up image didn't copy -- just as well, too large.) Thanks. vvvvvvvv...

    solar charger

I have an electric start trolling motor on a larger boat I keep in a slip. Just bought a solar charger for the little motor?s starting battery that is in a battery box at the stern ?-- $25 at Tractor Supply. It?s a Coleman 2amp charger. I hung around a little after hooking it up to see if it...
