1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I'll look. Thanks for the suggestion, Mark.

    fiberglass on floor

From my very limited experience, a few coats of gelcoat will definitely smooth out the edges of the overlap, but you'll still be able to see them unless you sand the gelcoat.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Well, looks like I'll be rebuilding my tow rig's engine instead of putting in a new long block. After a week with no updates, I got in touch with the vendor and they now tell me it's going to be 30-60 days when it was originally advertised as 1 week. Unacceptable, so I think I'm going to ask...

    Question on fuel

Shop around - you may be able to find a gas station that carries 100% gasoline. It's more expensive than E10, but less expensive than filling up at a marina.

    1983 Monark Transom

Yep, 1/4" of play and all those cracks are tell-tale signs it's time to park it until it's fixed.

    Restoring a 1990 Larson

Nice. I like your stand. I was thinking about pulling mine out of storage and starting to replace gimbal bearing, bellows, etc. this weekend, as I'm still in a holding pattern on my truck, which puts me in a holding pattern for putting the cap back on.

Haha, I appreciate the kind words. I still get bubbles sometimes.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Not sure that will work on mine. My holes filled in with resin / squeeze out. What size drill did you use, and is yours a Mercruiser?

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I'm starting to think about drilling the holes for my tansom assembly. 😬 It's a Mercruiser Alpha One, Gen 1, if that matters. What diameter are the holes supposed to be drilled to? I could pull the transom plate out of storage and measure the stud diameter, but I'm not sure if the holes are...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I'm making some progress on the Suburban, but still waiting on the new engine to show up...hopefully later this week. My tiny workspace is in disarray with car parts everywhere, so no boat progress to report. I did get in touch with the carpet vendor and they are going to send me the 20' I...

    1988 Malibu Sunsetter Restoration

If you're wanting to leave the glass for the stringers and only remove the wood, you may want to try looking into using an electric chainsaw. My brother is restoring a Glastron and is planning to do Seacast for stringers and transom and he has had good luck using a chainsaw to dig out the old...

    1987 Fourwinns Sundowner Transom repairs

*edit* never mind - I missed the 2nd post with the pictures of the 3D printed part. Super cool and creative/modern way of aligning the engine and drive.

    Replacing stringers.

OK, so I went through my records and here is the breakdown on what I've spent on the hull restoration for my 18.5 ft boat so far (September 2020 to now). There's undoubtedly some things I've left out, and some things I bought that I didn't need. I've tried to limit this list to hull...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Well, unfortunately it's been lots of choice words, and a few scraped knuckles, but I got the engine out of the truck. New engine should be here in a week. Hoping to wrap up the truck and be fully back on boat building by the first weekend in April.

Gelcoat looks great. I'm thinking I may do mine this week.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Well, I was hoping to carpet the bow this weekend, but I unpackaged my 20' x 8' roll of carpet to find out it was only 4' x 8'. 😖 Hoping the vendor can get me sorted out early next week.

    Trouble reinstalling pre-alpha drive

Nice tool...and I'm a tool guy. But there's no way I could justify a drive jack, just being a weekend warrior type. That thing looks like it takes up a fair amount of space for only doing a single job. Maybe I'll change my tune in a few months after I try installing my drive for the first...

    Replacing stringers.

Meh, my rebuild went fine with ACX plywood. I got my 3/4" from Home Depot ($41/sht) and had to buy my 1/2" from a local lumber supplier ($55/sht) because the big box stores around me didn't carry it. Yes, there are some voids on the C-grade side - just fill with peanut butter right before you...
