Mercruiser 4,3 MPI from 2008, intermittent alarm after 3500 rpm??

No expert with VV, but it does need to connect on the CAN Bus of the motor. Being a 2008 (no serial number provided) it has a good possibility of being a 555 ECM. If so then would need to get and connect cabling to make it usable. Might be easier to get Techmate Pro from Rinda. A scanner is...

    Hitch Pin Hardness

Don't remember when I drilled out the hole on the end of the hitch pin, but its been a lot of years. Drilled it out so I could put a master key lock thru the hole. New truck has a class V receiver and my old class IV pin is a tad short. Bought a class V pin, looks the same (zinc plated)...

A scanner is used to see if the ECM (engine computer) has any fault codes. Rinda makes them, either digital like techmate pro, or diacom software https://www.rinda.com/marine/marinemenu.htm

Your going past zero lash. Zero is where there is no up/down movement of the push rod, rotating is not in the mix. The weaker the lifter is, the more sensitive your fingers need to be to find zero Try the running method that 1960 mentioned

    starts then dies

It could be something as simple as the key switch, or more complex as something else. The key places power at the coil in the start position, and may not be keeping power at the coil when its released. This is way I was asking if 12V is staying at the coil

Yes, that's the one, so its not the kill switch Check for 12V at the coil with key ON and while cranking If power is there where most likely need a scanner. When cranking, does the tachometer show at least 300 RPM or more?

New Triton I/O Owner - Help with used boat prop selection

Without knowing numbers I'm guessing, but I would get a Tach. Merc says 17 so I would try that Best bet is to find a prop repair shop and see if they will let you try some. Many will, you buy the prop and can bring it back and exchange if needed
