    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

Yep you’re right didn’t think of that because in my boat it probably would work. OMC used studs & nuts for exhaust manifolds and they were plated so I never had trouble removing them like what can happen with just bolts; but they can’t be used in tight engine bays because the manifolds won’t...

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

There's no reason why studs into the engine block and nuts to hold the starter on wouldn't work, I have not seen it done with a starter, but some do this with cylinder heads....

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

I think the weight is like half & they also draw less current! I’m lucky my boat isn’t so hard to change the starter. Remove 1/2 of the rear seat & slide battery back

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

While the cost of outboard repairs may well be higher due to parts cost, most salt water boaters are choosing the outboard option no one seems to want to deal with the added maintenance sterndrives need every year….

Omc outdrive knocking noise while cruising.

The best ones in my opinion are the factory shop manuals, they do show up on ebay sometimes and there is a source for them, I searched but couldn't find it, when you have time search around you might find it. I looked at your install and the engine looks great, I do have one concern though, I...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I think it was the 200 hp version, it seemed faster than that to me but maybe some of my boat's 205 hp have gone out to pasture lol. Our old boat is slightly larger, and heavier it seemed. We never had 8 ppl on it though, usually only 4. He ultimately traded it on a similar boat with an outboard...

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

When I bought my last ARCO I had to buy the bolts separately. You can see em in the pic....

OK looked at the pix, yep that will allow water in, what I'd do is when you change the gasket, coat it on both sides with Permatex Aviation sealer, this may allow it to seal, and keep out water. Also I am wondering why if your ESA doesn't work, how is it that it shifts OK? the ESA is triggered...

Omc outdrive knocking noise while cruising.

That is the old diode fix that came out years ago when the Pertronix system for marine engines first came out. I have heard that Petronix is less than 100% reliable, some say it's great some say not so much, so if/when I do a conversion my thought is to go with the Delco EST system as long as I...

    This trailer has rocking bunks

I think Load Rite called these Self Adjusting bunks (SA bunk trailer) I can see how they would be advantageous because it allows the boat to load easier and launch easier because it compensates for the angle of the ramp....like a roller trailer with pivoting roller bars but without the extra...

Spark plugs and cap replacement interval

It's easy to just ohm out your plug wires, not more that 1k ohms per foot of length is a good guide, and check the cap & rotor carefully with a bright flashlight for carbon tracking. Another trick I saw on Uncle Tony's Garage you tube is look in the cap terminals when checking wires, if a wire...

Omc outdrive knocking noise while cruising.

Mine was redone before I bought it (probably 25 years ago) and it still shifts fine now. But when I got it the shift cable was sticking due to the build up behind the bell crank. I took it to a good OMC trained mechanic (2004) & after that it was fine. I learned how to maintain it myself &...

Need some info on adapting a Sierra A1 marine fuel line to a Carter mechanical fuel pump

https://michiganmotorz.com/fuel-line-hose-3-8-fuel-pump-to-carburetor-31-length/?searchid=60520&search_query=sierra+fuel+hose they seem to use this on their carbed turn key engines... the right angle end threads right into the Edelbrock fuel inlet, the fitting on the end for the pump is the same...

If you're wondering if your anti siphon valve is stuck, or clogged, here's a test....

BTW they make anti siphon valves out of both aluminum and brass, the brass ones are more expensive but are likely to last longer esp in salt water...

Need some info on adapting a Sierra A1 marine fuel line to a Carter mechanical fuel pump

OK got a question about using a Sierra A1 flex fuel line (this is if I wind up converting from my Quadrajet to an Edelbrock in the future), this Sierra line has brass fittings that appear to be 5/8ths" but the threads in the fuel pump are 1/2". At the carb end the Sierra threads right into the...

I recall reading about the recall on the Cobra lower gears, what they also found was that a supplier changed the spec on the lower shift cable, they had too much drag and were causing the drive to not shift fully into gear and that rounded off the clutch dogs/lower gears. The new cables were red...
