    Sticking weather seals

Thanks, I was thinking maybe some tire talc or baby power since they work well as lube for installing inner tubes in tires. Wasn’t sure about an open environment and the boats aren’t mine so any mess I make must be cleaned up.

    Sticking weather seals

Thanks but looking for a solution that keeps the seals from sticking to the side they shouldn’t stick too. There are a lot of products to use as glue.

    Sticking weather seals

I dropped a Yamaha seal into the lake when it stuck just long enough to not fall back on the engine a few years back. I glued that one to the middle cover. The Mercurys want to pull up about midway on both sides. I am pretty sure they would come completely off if I did stop and pry them back...

    Creaking/popping power trim

Good question on the grease fitting for the pivots. After I made my comment above, one of the new Hondas came through. No popping yet but It creaks. One year old motor with 120 hours sounding just like some that are 7-8 years old with over 1200 hours. I sprayed a silicone lube on the rams for...

    No telltale Nissan 90hp

Not much can go wrong with the housing unless it was run out of the water. It can’t pump water if the housing doesn’t hold the cup in place. I had a Yamaha in here last week where the alignment tabs on the cup were bent flat and the housing was damaged where the tabs are supposed to sit. The...

    No telltale Nissan 90hp

Just noticed it is not stated the impeller has been replaced, just checked. How is the impeller being checked? Is it actually being pulled off the shaft? Is the woodruff key in place or are the slots damaged? Does the impeller have a permanent set to it (curved so it slides in and out of the...

    No telltale Nissan 90hp

Are all of the water pipe seals where the pipe slides into the water pump housing in good shape and installed properly? Did you replace just the impeller or do a kit? It can be a problem if the cup or plate are grooved.

    Raising outboard higher

Good to see you got it fixed. Before outboard jet drives were really available from the motor manufacturers, I worked for a boat dealer in Alaska who was selling jon boats with aftermarket outboard jet drives. He was having transom risers made to get the jet up where it belonged. Basically...

Suzuki DF175 surging at high power setting

The guy needed the trailer for a different boat so he took it back to the lake before I had a chance to fiddle with it again. He sent me a video showing the boat was running fine. I did notice the tach reading a good bit past 7,000 rpm even though the engine sounded normal. SDS arrived today...

Suzuki DF175 surging at high power setting

Replaced the high pressure filter and ran on the lake today. No change. I guess it could be going into a guardian mode but not getting any alarms or lights.

Tilt / Trim Motor Torque Specs

I spent 20 years wrenching on military aircraft. Used a torque wrench on nearly everything and was taught the wrong terminology. Very hard habit to break but every bit as bad has confusing “then” with “than” or “break” with “brake” or “their” with “there”. At least the last 2 examples rhyme...

    Creaking/popping power trim

One of the boats I look after has a zerk on the starboard end of the pivot tube but not on the port end. Another one doesn’t have any. Most have one on each end. I have a few motors in the fleet that creak and pop trimmed or tilted up. They have been that way since before I joined the...

Suzuki DF175 surging at high power setting

Just started getting a 1000 rpm surge at high power settings going across the lake. Not feeling a miss. I think about 1100 hours on the motor. - Replaced the low pressure filter. No change. Tank run with no load shows: - High pressure side reads 70 psi when the key is turned on and 40 psi...

1997 Honda BF40A trim fluid check?

The circled bolt should be the fill level check.

BF200 power loss at full throttle

I didn’t hear anything for 2 weeks but today they said it is acting up again. It only seems to happen when the boat is pushed hard. The day it acted up on me I ran it trimmed up at full throttle for over 2 miles before it missed a beat. I had my wife drive while I crouched next to the motor but...

BF200 power loss at full throttle

They finally got the boat off the lake. I spent all morning trying to figure out how to make a connection with my fuel injection service kit only to find out it isn’t an easy task unless you buy the Honda tool. It threads into a standard 6mm(?) hole and I have nothing that can do it. I...

Honda BF60 Dies Above 3kish RPM

HEADS UP!!!! I just learned the Harbor Freight fuel injection service kit does not have the connector needed to connect to a new BF200D I need to check. I do not know about your 60hp but this is the first time I didn’t have an easy connection. Might just be a Honda thing.

Honda BF60 Dies Above 3kish RPM

I can’t think of anything you haven’t covered without going into the electronics of the motor. Maybe it is losing the signal to the injectors for some reason. Throttle position sensor?

Honda BF60 Dies Above 3kish RPM

Not so on all fuel injection systems. I was able to install a portable tank with a primer bulb on a Mercruiser equipped boat that had a failing injection pump to make it run good enough to drive the across the lake and load it on a trailer. The boat would run good for about 2 minutes after...

Honda BF60 Dies Above 3kish RPM

I bought a harbor freight fuel injection test kit a few years ago. It is essentially a pressure gauge with adapters for nearly everything and has served me pretty well working 6 or 7 different brands of marine motors for no more than it cost. It does sound like low pressure is a long shot...
