    Many folks have been fooled by testing with a sparkplug laying on the block.----In the cylinder it takes more voltage to jump the plug gap ( 120 PSI compressed air ) than it takes to jump the gap on the plug at atmospheric pressure.----Always test the maximum output of the magneto.

    The tool is used to TEST MAXIMUM VOLTAGE output from the coils.-----Nothing to do with testing the plugs.----If you have maximum voltage output and plug does not fire , you have a defective plug !!

    Your meter is showing infinity.-----Which is the correct value.----Nothing wrong with the starter per your tests.----That now eliminates poor starter performance.----Something that was not known BEFORE the testing.

    What is the Ohm reading on armature to ground?-----All those copper segments to the wee stub shaft.

    That is very possible ----and very easy to check out.----Don't rush out and buy a new one.----Test the one you have.----I install new brushes in these starters.----Got them from a starter alternator place at $6.50 each.

    The key is to be pushed in AND held in while cranking it over.----That should make for near instant starting.----When motor fires, stop pushing in on the key.----Push key in as needed if motor falters.
