Silliest Question on Fuel Mix - Thank you for your patience

The 1957 thru 1963 35hp and 40hp, as well as all the V4s 58-63, were fully Antifriction Bearing, and could tolerate a 50:1 provided a TCW Oil was used.

Silliest Question on Fuel Mix - Thank you for your patience

That engine has Anti-Friction Bearings throughout, the OP's Engine has Friction Bearing aka; Bushings. These need significantly More Oil, mainly to prevent Metal to Metal Contact, especially in the Connecting Rod Bearings. Leaner Mixtures, even when superior Oils are used, don't provide enough...

    One last try

That is what I considered a Jumpstart, done standing on a Dock, or a Raft. I did a lot of Knee Deep Starts, even succeeded on my 1st Attempt back in 1975.

    2 Stroke Oil Thread

Put it this way, Amsoil is not a TCW-3 Certified Oil, so using it might be a Risk. I don't know about the Stihl Oil, what I remember about their Oils, was that they were for Air Cooled 2 Strokes, which run considerably Hotter than Outboards and thereby place different Demands on the Oils.

    Transom saver or no?

If the Motor flopps around, then yes a Saver may be a good Idea. If the Motor is Locked Rigidly by Hydraulics, then Avoid them, because if the Boat shifts ever so slightly forward or backward, a lot of Stress is placed on the very Transom you think you are protecting

Silliest Question on Fuel Mix - Thank you for your patience

If it says 16:1. use 16:1 even with the TCW-3 Oils. That motor uses Friction Bearings, and needs Lots of Oil to Survive. it will also help keep the Mosquitoes at bay

1978 Johnson 140hp running rough. Need advice

They certainly not my Favorite Item either, but many times I have removed them on Carbs that the Owner insisted were spotless, and found a pile of Gum/Varnish/Dirt hiding behind them with no way to get out. On the Carbs with fixed Idle Jets, Settings like the Float become Critical, as well as...

1978 Johnson 140hp running rough. Need advice

Did you take the Carbs off, and clean out all the Passages, including any that are covered by little Disc Plugs? Those would need replacing so, Carb Kits are needed. Are the Floats correctly Set. Is the Fuel Pump providing enough Fuel. Once reinstalled the Sync between the Carbs and Spark...

How can I make my Tracker 40 HP faster?

Is the Hull Clean, and Smooth? The Motor looks like it had a Lot of Growth on it. So does the Boat Motor: What are the Compression Numbers? Can the Spark Jump a 5/16 Gap on all Cylinder? Timing and Spark Advance Correct? Is the entire Fuel System Clean and Functioning Properly

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

While there are instances of using the smaller Hub on the Large Case, it is not done on Recreational Boating. The Props would need to be engineered for it. The one you are showing, is not

1995 Force 120 will no longer idle

How long ago did you do a Compression Test? That was then, you NEED to know what the Numbers are Now. If 1 & 2 are out, they share a Carb, as do 3 & 4. 1 & 4 also have Seals on the Crankshaft that can leak. Did you fiddle with any Adjustments on the Throttle Linkage, as that can really mess with...
