    New to a vp

The gas tank has a gas line going to a gas filter hopefully, a gas line to a vent, a gas gauge sender and large fill hose. Drain the outdrive into a clean container so you can inspect for water & metal shavings. Pull the drive. You need to check the gimbal bearing, alignment and grease the...

    2018 V6 200 J Oil pressure dropping and alarm

I hope you are using the dipstick with respect to checking the oil level not by going by the manual and adding xx QT of oil as listed in manual. Manual is a starting point, the final say. Forget any oil additives. Hopefully you have lots of money so spending $500 or $600 on a Dicom scan tool...

    marine engine mystery

Prop hube or coupler. But usually once a prop hub slips it will never work OK until it's repaired. These tests you have run have same number of people on board and roughly same amount of fuel?

New impeller but now no cooling

The engine ran fine before with respect to cooling? How long ago? Old impeller was intact? No rubber parts broken off and now somewhere in the engine? Does it have a flush adapter on the engine you can connect a hose up to and give it a try? Flush adapter cap tight so it cannot suck in air...

    1995 Marada MX3

I would guess it's a GM engine. Why did it crack, overheat or not winterized? The easiest way to move forward is to get a reman marine engine. I would not try to use a car or truck engine.

    2008 8.1 Gil Fault Codes

Rinda.Com sells the Diacom. Make sure you get the right connectors. Contact the company to verify the proper connector. They are very helpful. I bought an inexpensive 11" Acer laptop to run the software on. You may need a long enough cable to get the laptop into the cabin so you can read...

Volvo Penta Drive Belt - Lots of dust and quickly wearing??

I think fellow boaters would appreciated less draw from your amps in the form of music not so loud. A refrig probably draws more than your amps if you have a 12V one. A 70 amp alternator will only put out 70 amps at a certain RPM range. If you are really drawing a 70 amp load then not sure...

What year engines does the SB cover?

    Volvo Penta 5.7 no spark

The Diacom while a great product cannot diagnose everything. Sometimes you need a DVM or scope. On my 2012 the check engine light will light up indicating a problem that the Diacom can then diagnose.

    Volvo Penta 5.7 no spark

I have the Diacom and a small laptop. For a 2012 VP engine. I think the Diacom with a laptop provides more functionality than the dedicated device. This will not be the last time you will need to get diagnostics from your VP engine.

    Trim sender: 2-wire or 3-wire?

I would try and do as much diagnosis as I could by measuring resistance. And also measure while the drive is going up and down and see if it changes resistance nice and evenly or jumps around while changing resistance.

    Taking suggestions 5.7 Vortec

Why isn't the place you got the engine from taking ownership of the problems, identifying the problems and fixing them?

    Exhaust pieces and parts

And in many cases get the work done in a more timely manner. In my area of southern Delaware just finding a mechanic to work on an I/O is difficult. With a newer engine a DIY person may need to splurge on a Diacom to read the codes and other diagnostic information.

    Volvo Penta 7.4 overheats

Are these plastic fittings still being used today in VP outdrives? I pulled both hoses off the raw water pump to drain. I used my mouth to blow out the intake hose.

    Exhaust pieces and parts

When did Volvo Penta stop by using the exhaust flappers all together?

    2008 8.1 Gil Fault Codes

You might want to purchase a Diacom and run it via a laptop. It's the best way to diagnose problems in a Volvo Penta.

    Penta 4.3 GL in saltwater?

At the very least you need to pull the exhaust manifold and riser and evaluate. The riser is always raw water cooled. The manifold could be part of closed cooling system. Hopefully you don't have a catalytic converter engine. The exhaust is only available from Volvo Penta if a catalytic...

    Volvo Penta 5.7 GSI

Your typical alternator with internal regulator has 3 wires. Large one for output, two smaller ones, one switched by ignition for excite and one not switched by ignition for sense.

Volvo Penta DP-D1 lower unit case

Not sure I would go the powder coat route. But that's just me. I don't think Volvo Penta uses powder coating for new engines, even for the OXI series.
