    coils points condensers are all the same....standard mag since early 50s onward. strand copper or just plain metallic is usually available in bike shop or lawnmower shops. Carbon fiber is for cars to prevent static noise on the AM band because metallic cable would radiate high...

    when it dies and while still HOT ... from plug boot .....measure HV side resistance to coil to engine body ground ...expect 4-8 KOhms if open ... bad coil or wire wiggle things a bit incl boot did you replace plug wires yes-no ? with 7mm metallic strand wire (no CARBON wires!!)...

    you can try swappings parts to help find the problem child but condensers are frequently the problems. did you change them ?? try just swapping the 2 to see if the problem follows clean the points with carb cleaner !!

    the upper adjustments act as a safety feature for starting in gear or high rpms nothing to do with shifting itself. they also allow line up of the shift handle with the r-n-f positions did u check the shift not connector down below see fig 6.5 on PAGE 6.5

    no real adjustments on the shift rod but if the shift rod link (connector) (down near the impeller housing is not properly set with both bolts snugged in the rod recesses then anything goes. to bad can't post pics...
