early power trim motor burn out 150 2001 Johnson

Gee, my '98 Johnny 150HPV6 has two stainless steel pins that hold the trim motor on. I would think your motor is the same. You needed to pull the pins out of the electrical connector and remove it, to get the PTT wire out of the cowling, and then pull the keepers and pins and the PTT motor...

    Outboard motor upgrade?

My neighbor's 'toon has flat aluminum welded over th bottom of the pontoons. I will guess to help it plane. He still only gets 22MPH with a 150HP Yammie.

Gas leaking out of one carb?

The carb bowl is not likely the culprit. The carb float and inlet needle is likely the guilty party. Clean it and try it. If she still leaks, replace at least the inlet needle and seat. If the float looks suspect, replace that and the gaskets.

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

Precision drilling is a wonderful thing. It is difficult to drill out the harder steel, while not molesting the softer aluminum. Good job, and good luck on the others.

    Process for changing boat trailers?

Check Eastern marine for a trailer tongue extension. It should bolt on and add a few feet to trailer length. Will that do it?

No lights on the Trailer there is but power at the Wires

Check power at the bulbs. The sockets often corrode. In the old days I would solder the wires to the bulbs and coat 'em with grease to keep the corrosion down. Luckily for me, now I live 1.5 mi (all back roads) from the ramp, so I don't use the lights. Also, it pays to d/c the trailer lights...

Need help timing 1986 mercury 90 inline 6 adi ignition

I had the distributor ignition IL6, so I am not real familiar with your timing procedure. I have a V6 ADI Merc now, so I have some familiarity with that timing process. I would not worry about the idle stop timing marks and concentrate on setting the idle pickup and max spark advance specs...

Water pump water port and bolt thread

Maybe the casting is a bit different on your motor, I do not remember if my 4.3L engine was the same as yours. On an unrelated note, I always thought the circulating pump bolts were kinda weird anyway, as they were asymmetric. However, compared to the Ford circulating pumps, the SBC...

Need help timing 1986 mercury 90 inline 6 adi ignition

Different year motors and motor models had slightly different throttle arms. Your service manual should tell you what the various screws do, however, you should be able to see what they do as well. On my '93 V6, the primary pickup screw is just above the pivot of the throttle arm, to it's left.

HELICOIL or solid insert is likely next. Drilling and tapping implies lager bolts which may not fit.

Tilt and Trim 150hp Mercury v6

What year is the motor? 3 cylinder PTT unit? When you say relief valve, do you mean PTT manual release?

Need help timing 1986 mercury 90 inline 6 adi ignition

Your manual is wrong. Idle pickup timing of 4-6* BTDC is for the distributor ignition models. Idle pickup timing for ADI ignition is 0-9*ATDC. Max spark advance is 21*BTDC, for both. Remove prop, and spark plugs 2-6. Advance throttle until carbs are closed, but ready to open. Crank motor...

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

If that motor is made by Yamaha, the bolts are likely metric. Their marking system is a bit different than SAE bolts, but you should be able to match 'em up.

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

"Chase" the threads means cleaning them with a tap or die. Gently run the tap or die over the threads, using light pressure or no pressure. It should restore them to almost new by getting rid of corrosion or old sealer. The Permatex Aviation sealer is a brush able non hardening sealer. It...

Power trim not working just clicks.

The bottom left picture of the armature, on the bottom, next to the brushes, there is a circuit breaker. It is usually constructed with two different metals, that expand different amounts. That causes the contact to bend when it gets hot, opening the points. Make sure it is making contact, or...

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

You might chase the threads of the bolts that came out, as well as the threads in the casting. Use some Permatex aviation sealant on the bolts upon reassembly.

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

Tie or anchor the boat firmly so she doesn't move while you work on it. Pull the bolts and remove the gearcase. Take the gearcase ashore where you have built a fixture to hold it. Vice works, some sort of wooden stand or even some cinder blocks with wood padding. Take your time and follow...
