    Model Airplanes

I totally missed it today. I was out running errands and new it was supposed to launch but forgot to set a reminder alarm at liftoff time. It's always cool to see the big beasties reaching for the sky. My favorite that I actually worked on was this:

    Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

So you're saying that you need a place to hide it until later? Hey, I know a guy! :heh: :stupid: Then again, there's this 20 foot hull on Facebook for just $400. :applause:

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Late this afternoon we hit the inside of the hull at the leak location with stripper and got it cleaned up enough for the Gluvit. The stripper worked very quickly there. It's still shiny under there. Should I try to re-buck any of the rivets? I'm disinclined to do that out of concern that...

California Chieftain Repair and Resto 1974 18'

I started out with the Jasco stripper and struggled with it mightily. :grumpy: But recently I switched to Kleen Strip Aircraft Paint Remover and that made all the difference in getting the hull stripped. The aircraft stripper was much more effective and far more tolerant of temperature...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, the weather didn't cooperate today and we couldn't do any stripping. Too cool. But we did get the Chieftain bow raised. Not only was the trailer jack buried in the sand, but the roller had snapped. (Poor, poor neglected Chief. :blue: ) Believe it or not, with only a couple of very...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

We safely got the KF into the backyard this afternoon. My buddy and the boy walked alongside and carefully watched to make sure that there wouldn't be any problems. No worries this time. (Man, I really need to get the bow of the Chieftain up!) The KF is draining and drying tonight and...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Engine Repower

Whoops! I just now saw that you asked me a question. My bad. I also used Titebond 3. Clamped it good and tight too.

    I'll take it. ;)

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

There is definitely a leak at the stern caused by damage from the boat coming off the trailer yesterday. Water drops along the seam this morning and water on the floor beneath. I have a doc appointment shortly and I'm unsupervised right now, so I can't move the boat outside to drain. But I...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Thanks WM. I just ordered more Gluvit. I still have some left over from 3 years ago but I don't trust it and simply haven't thrown it away yet. Will do that now for sure. I'm not seeing any "crinkles" or other signs that the boat got bent. So far. This is the area now in...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Part 2 I'm posting this so that others can learn from MY mistake. Don't be a bonehead like I was this morning! :blue: It was completely my fault. :yell: REMEMBER TO STRAP THE BOAT TO THE TRAILER BEFORE MOVING!!! I didn't even think about it. I was so happy that I only had a tiny leak to...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

So at this point it was time to take the boat out into the yard to drain and dry. And I did something really, REALLY stupid. And I have to pay the price.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Leak test... Part 1 Got the boat in the garage and started filling with water. My buddy was helping as supervisor & safety monitor. And after an hour of waiting, a few drops showed under the forward section.

It's certainly looking shiny out there in the morning sun. Dew tell.

Another cool old aluminum boat (big!)

Man, a V-8 jet drive sounds awesome! It's advertised as an I/O boat and that keyhole is there, so I suppose it is/was? Found another pic. Tri-hull? Cathedral hull? Something else?

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Today's progress... Preparing for a leak test tomorrow! :D After a year of being worked on, stepped in, manhandled and otherwise bumped around, I figured that the KF could use a leak test to be certain that it will remain dry after being painted. And after all that work, I sure don't want to...

Another cool old aluminum boat (big!)

I'm keeping an eye out for an aluminum flats boat for my neighbor and ran across this beast for sale. 25 footer! Pretty cool. Not suitable for his needs but interesting nonetheless. I have no idea what the original purpose of this tri-hull aluminum I/O boat was, but if I had a need, I'd be...

Haha! Yeah, mine came out looking like a Cylon from the '80s.

1973 starcraft ss restore in progress

I can't address the filling part because I haven't done that yet. Counter-boring with an auger bit will give a nice flat surface for the rivet heads. :)
