    Shift interrupter switch.

The shift interrupt with the TB ignitions works essentially the same as it does with points. The green/wht is the trigger wire from the sensor. When running, the sensor is sending a pulsed signal based on the speed of the rotor. The ignition module then sends a pulsed ground to the coil. When...

    1999 Mercruiser 5.0 L 8 Cylinder not engaging

Welcome. Sounds like you grenaded your outdrive. Drain the gear oil, look for chunks of metal. Remove the cap at the top of the outdrive to get a look at your upper gears. Could be the coupler also; see if the shaft coming from the engine turns when you turn the prop. BTW, '99 should have a gen...

    help with iffy gas?

Regular gas can't hold any water. So once you suck out the water on the bottom, there's nothing left. Well, the lower octane makes it easier to pre detonate and grenade your engine, so there's that. Don't want to go too low.

    Shift interrupter switch.

What exactly is the issue you're having? Sounds like the switch is closing correctly? The green/wht wire should be grounded when the switch is closed. You can check and see if the wire is grounded at the distributor when you close the switch.

    help with iffy gas?

So just did a little research and math... The blending octane level of pure ethanol is around 110. So losing all the ethanol in AKI 87 E10 would give you an AKI of 84-85. Probably still fine for a lot of low performance applications, but certainly fine if you mix in some premium, or enough regular.

    help with iffy gas?

I agree with @dingbat on this one. There isn't any chemical reaction with the hydrocarbons, the ethanol precipitates out with the water. Possible some of the detergents come out as well. Theoretically you could measure the ethanol and replace, but... Easier to dilute with fresh gas and run it...

Perfectly for 15 minutes then, surging, knocking, and jumping tac

It might be grounding out your ignition causing the symptoms. Sounds electric to me, and I think you need to chase TKS wiring rather than the carb itself. As I frequently recommend, and nobody ever tries, is to put a timing light on there while you're having issues. It will show an erratic spark...

Perfectly for 15 minutes then, surging, knocking, and jumping tac

Disconnect the tach wire first, but Guessing you have a problem in your TKS system, if that's what you have. Temp switch closes, goofy things begin.

    Shift interrupter switch.

Seems like a bad idea. You wouldn't be disabling the module, which will be trying to switch against voltage spikes at the coil

    Shift interrupter switch.

nks Chris! I’ll get the serial number. Super simple. The switch just grounds the grn/wht wire to the block. That's it.

Mercrusier 350 MAG MPI - RPM issue under a load

Don't know about this particular system, but usually the pcm can tell that the MAP is disconnected and will default to a stock fuel map based on other inputs (tps and rpm for example)

I love ethanol in my gas tank and my belly. Very versatile.

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

Thought the boat was running well... Today finally had enough confidence to do a WOT run. A touch choppy, not ideal, but only managed 41 mph/4500 rpm. No obvious running issues. Gonna check timing (really hoping it's off... But I don't think it is), then compression. Was hitting 48+ in the...

    Crank, no spark. Need advice.

What? No! You tap the w/g wire to ground when it's disconnected from the sensor.

Mercrusier 350 MAG MPI - RPM issue under a load

Replacing things without testing them doesn't tell you that the system is working. Did you check the wiring and the output of each sensor before / after replacement? The diacom makes it easy to see if the sensors are actually sensing... I think it's pointless for you to keep throwing parts at it...

ECT = Engine Coolant temp PCM = Powertrain Control Module = ECM + ECU in this context

Mercrusier 350 MAG MPI - RPM issue under a load

My mistake on the TPS. Has OP checked fuel pressure?

Mercrusier 350 MAG MPI - RPM issue under a load

MAP sensor when warm, ECT sensor has effect until it warms up. PCM probably takes RPM into account as well, I don't think there's a TPS sensor on there; if so that would have an effect as well.
