1986 Bayliner Capri won't start after running great all weekend

2Xs on the Capt. about the timing belt. Hopefully it will last long enough until the engine is running right. For all practical purposes try to get the genuine Volvo service and parts manual. Sierra will probably send you a catalog also that has the Volvo #s. Sierra# 18-5292 is the electronic...

    DPS-b drive lifts in reverse

There is probably a check ball and spring that may have something stuck in it. The older Mercruiser Prestolite systems were adjustable, I had a test manifold that resembled a Freon charging manifold. Too bad Volvo likes the “throw away” and pay system. Flushing it out is worth a try.

    DPS-b drive lifts in reverse

The best I can think of is that Volvo refers to this as a “Non Serviceable “ item. The pump body has a system like the Mercruiser style. There is a “trail out” valve which is also used to hold the drive down for reversing. The only thing you could try is to remove the lines from the rams, run...

    DPS-b drive lifts in reverse

To me if you had a internal ram leak the drive would not hold a trimmed position. Where is the trim pump located? Can you post a picture of the pump?

1986 Bayliner Capri won't start after running great all weekend

I would leave the timing belt alone. When they are causing a problem the engine will not run at all. You may have to clean out the carburetor again. Get a extra spin on fuel filter so you will have a spare.

Am I seeing right that there are only 3 screws holding the sender in place?

The one between the tank and fuel pump should have a marine filter. Sierra# 18-7848-1 filter kit.

1986 Bayliner Capri won't start after running great all weekend

Since you said the carburetor was dirty there may be some problems with the fuel tank. Remove the suction tube from the tank, there may be a small screen in the tube, it unscrews from the fitting and should be removed. Is there a good fuel water separating filter between the tank and fuel...

    Overheating and hydro locked

You can start by removing the spark plugs on the side that is getting water, connect a garden hose to the front of the manifold water inlet and just let the water run and see if water starts flowing out the cylinders.

    OMC Bad Gas

Take a close look at the fuel tank vent, did it somehow get re positioned so that water can get into it? Does the vent hose have a “hump” in it where it is connected to the out side vent? What about the fill cap?

1983 Four Winns mercruiser 488 3.7L overheating HELP

Another quick check is to remove the drive pump supply hose from the heat exchanger, with the flush out or the drive in the water start the engine and see if it is possible to use your thumb to stop the water from coming out. If you can then the problem is out side the boat. Either in the drive...

    280dp loss of pds bearing

There should be a bearing in the front also. So the engine needs to come out. The bearings are common and can be matched up at any bearing supply or maybe even a NAPA store as well as the universal joints. Sierra# 18-2744 bellows kit 18-2778 water hose connection...

    Can't get over 3000 RPM

If the carburetor has not been cleaned it would not hurt to go through it. There are some removable plugs that have screens that can be plugged. Most times the gaskets can be re used.

    3.0L Fuel Starvation

There probably a a bag style at the end or a small one in the tube. Try using a straight piece of wire to see if there is one in the tube. If there is none in the tube then usually the tube has a 90* bend at the bottom where the filter bag is attached. Does the tube feel loose, does the...

    OMC to Mercruiser Conversion

The Holley to me is a better set up and the engine should perform good with the Mercruiser. There is a hole on the upper part of the Holley throttle lever to attach the Mercruiser throttle cable. You may have to make up another bracket to anchor the cable.

    OMC to Mercruiser Conversion

2Xs on Bondo’s suggestion. As far as the original Mercruiser engine I would give a lot of thought about the manifolds. They may be the reason the that something is wrong with the Mercruiser. I suggest new manifolds. You can keep your OMC distributor because some Mercruisers also used either...

Looking for help with electric shift stinger

Lift the top cover off of the upper gear case and check if the centering post is broken off or loose. The only way the spline can break is if there is a mis alignment. That drive unit had to have struck something really hard.

Looking for help with electric shift stinger

The 6 bolts, are they philips head counter sunk in the top of the upper gear case that holds a cover on? If so then I suspect that the center post in the gear case is broken off which caused the splined water pump shaft to break the spline off of the lower vertical shaft. In other words you have...
