these small engines have a strong heritage back to the 50's ...just feed it good fuel, oil, impellers, grease and some car wax :) and they last forever
and fuel pick-up filters etc...including deteriorated fuel hoses
..a high pressure test and lift pump pressuretest will determine if fuel makes it to the VST properly then the injectors
then it becomes a . question of proper injector operation if not crudded up , ignition control by the EMM.
EMM does not see everything it only senses things like current flow to some parts, sensor outputs etc... it does not see cracked coils dirty injectors bad fuel flows poor injector pressure etc...
having no codes just eliminates a lot of things to check out.
before swapping...
could be fuel starvation overheating component vst air lock keeping fuel from entering the VST etc...
post your recent EV diagnostic report and... engine model#
if ECM-EMM decisions are not causing the shut down due to a critical sensor detected anomaly then you need to check all...
you are correct the 1990-2001 does not go up to your engine size but the fundamentals are there. As to the other link it also contains basic info.
your engine has the infamous PDP known for cold solder joints on the main B+ entry into the panel. not saying it is the problem mind you just...
close to 37,000 feedbacks should not be ignored
very odd....did you or not try another compression meter or pull the head to look inside. gaskets are cheap and you have no other options.
btw ... "Hello have a 1984 Johnson 150 V6" is this a new to you engine ??
with untested...
Aside from terrible compression numbers which your EMM can not sense anyway the EMM may be seeing another condition which can only be observed with EV diagnostic software and in some cases blinking codes
on the tach.
here is a doc. on using and the value of EV diagnostics. Version 5.9...
the best you can do for your ETEC is ALWAYS feed it clean fuel with a 10u water separator, change gear oil annually and change impeller about 3-5 years max. wouldn't worry to much about water intakes. window screen would get plugged up even faster !
download your manual and suggest you acquire the software to service your engine if ever you get "codes"
User GEB on theTEC board provides much documentation like this write -up on EV diagnostics
btw both 2002-006 and the 2007 books provide pretty much all the info you need...
IF I say IF the engine key was left on... maybe 3 weeks 4 weeks at most
bilge, bait and fish tank pumps and running lights all have a separate key under control of the main instrument key also wired to my red idiot lamp. hard to forget !!
