    Aplha 1, 3.0 - Exhaust & Manifold Help Please

In higher temperatures and salinity levels of the ocean the corrosion will be increased. 3 years does seem very quick as most folks are thinking 5-7 years. As Scott says post some pictures of the manifold to elbow cooling water passages. It is possible that your mechanic is recommending out of...

    Prop seals Bravo 3

Use heat on the bearing carrier retainer and to pull the bearing carrier out. On my alpha I ended up getting a 3/4 drive breaker bar to get the retainer loose, bust my 1/2" one on first try.

    Plastic where zinc goes.

Depends on a couple things - I got 3-6 years out of my gen one impellers. This is freshwater northern lake so 30-40 hrs annually. I found the OEM merc ones lasted 2x the sierra ones. Had the boat (1991) for 20 years and did 3 or 4 changes at most. Best bet is to go a season or two and open it...

Best Battery for MerCruiser 888 (1976 Ford 302)

Yes most folks are converting to PMGR for weight savings and easier install. Only issue I have heard is sometimes the PMGR is slightly shorter than the original and you need to get new bolts, which is not a bad idea anyways

    Plastic where zinc goes.

Make sure you get the correct annodes (zincs) for the water you are in. Magnesium for fresh water Aluminum salt, brackish or fresh - I think what merc uses as OEM Zinc for salt only Personally I found less corrosion using OEM Merc Magnesium in fresh water vs aftermarket magnesium ones

    Solas Amita vs OEM (Yamaha)?

I don't think merc has nearly the amount of selection for the B3 props he mentions, and I think the thread was about AL props so apples and oranges. Certainly Enertia, revolution 4 etc are tough to beat on single prop set ups. My good friend has 24 ft Crownline Deck boat 350 Mag/B3 with the...

Best Battery for MerCruiser 888 (1976 Ford 302)

Maybe an acceptable substitute. May just be luck but the batteries have gotten at NAPA seem to hold up well n terms of longevity. The cheaper ones have bought at Walmart or other cheaper auto parts stores, not so much. While a few bucks more might be a better investment

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

I didn't even consider the OB side as except for small tinnys over the years never owned one. Only asked because my alpha gen one and gen two powered boats have been great for me. Had to read it twice as I didn't know they offered a blender....I get it on the dog clutch, I grew up with them so...

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

I think you are right, probably more boat builders have gone out of business than are still in business... Its hard enough getting any useful info from the boat builders still in business. Honestly asking - what is the hatred of Merc based on - did you have a bad experience on a past boat?

    Solas Amita vs OEM (Yamaha)?

if you can get OEM for similar price to aftermarket do so. Might be worth sending your old prop out for repair as a spare. My kids loved the big mable when they were younger. Especially when they were younger had a bunch of kids on it , hanging of the back etc.. I think it lasted about 5-6...

    Stupid question…

that makes me think the water tube coming up off the pump is not connected. I would pull the drive replace the gasket you mentioned, back flush from the thermostat to the outdrive as the PS cooler could be clogged. Look and see if the water outlet tube is ok in the drive. might verify that...

    Prop damage threshold

You can try running it and see how much vibration is present. You also can do a static balance pretty easily. I started doing this with my mower blades and it does seem to help keep vibration down.

    Engine replacement help…

The V6 definitely has less total advance than the V8 modules. Also think the 5.0 has less advance than the 5.7. The 5.7 modules usually also have the knock control piggy backed with it. I have yet to see Kock control on a carbed 4.3 or 5.0 They give less info about the TBV than the older tb4...

    Engine replacement help…

that’s why you need to swap out the ignition module To match the engine. I test ran my 5.0 with a 4.3 module. On a stand it ran fine. It certainly would not have the correct total advance and not sure if it would think the rpms are higher and kick in the rev limiter. i thought I saw something...

    Engine replacement help…

If you have a Thunderbolt distributor on your original engine i Am confident the distributor body is the same for V6 and V8. You just need a new cap rotor and trigger wheel, plus a V8 ignition module To use it. Merc ingtion modules are pricey , otherwise use a delco est set up.
