Alpha 1 Gen 2 - gear lube in idle relief ports

pull the drive and see if you see lube. Any gear lube leak the diagnosis is the same, pull drive and pressure test. you may also see some if you pull the prop and look inside exhaust cavity. I just resealed my drive this winter. Wasn’t leaking until I picked up some fishing line on prop seal...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - gear lube in idle relief ports

Is it gear lube and not engine oil or fogging oil? This is the only SWAG I can thinking of -If seal in bottom of upper is leaking into exhaust cavity while drive is in full up position does the elevation work out so it drips into exhaust bellows and day lights at relief holes ?

    Engine replacement help…

Yes it does make it sit lower. I found this in the parts book that came with it, the 5.0's had risers listed as 5.0 w RSR.

    Engine replacement help…

On mine Sea Ray did not use risers on the 4.3 version , did put a 3" riser on the 5.0 versions so there must be something to it. Going from a 3.7 aluminum block to a 4.3 iron block and heads is probably a similar weight gain. Teething issues aside are you happy with it, I mean none of us are...

    Engine replacement help…

Yes- my Sea Ray 200 was set up nicely at the factory to do either 4.3 or 5.0 hp ranged from 190 hp to 260 hp. Mine was originally the 190 hp 2bbl 4.3 vortec. I realized that it had the same power to weight ratio as my old boat 17 ft/ 3.0 which was under powered. In the end for what we spent the...

    Engine replacement help…

Yes in your size boat if you keep it I would do a 5.7 if it fits in the engine compartment/ doghouse. My boat is similar size, I did a 5.0 because that’s the largest sea ray out in the boat. Knowing what i know now a 5.7 would have been better, same cost and weight 35-40 more hp. The 5.0 works...

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

The mags and tires may be what he had laying around unless bolt pattern is different. That’s how my dad’s Catalina 22 trailer ended up with Blizzaks on it. Needed a set of 15” tires had a set snows for car I no longer owned…

    Bellows Water Detector - Retrofit?

exactly my experience. 2004 Alpha Drive fresh water use. Did the bellows in 2022 and the ujoint and shift bellows were not leaking yet. Exhaust bellows tore in 2020. Also kept my original greaseable gimbal bearing. I just did my non greaseable u-joints this winter they had some wear- felt...

    Bellows Water Detector - Retrofit?

While it is off is not a valid argument with regards to pulling the drive as it is less than half hour of work once you know what you are doing. Can you get a season out of it ? Post pics of what it looks like, maybe maybe not. Did they recommend replacement or do you know when this was last done.

    Engine replacement help…

At least you can save the starter bolts... Seriously it always amazes me how much damage can be done for lack of ten minutes pulling drain plugs. Was the crank bent or broken or what ever ?

    Bellows Water Detector - Retrofit?

It makes sense for the application if you ignore all the corrosion BS they had. If you had a large boat that costs a grand to pull makes sense. If yo are a fresh water boater who keeps it on a lift, get down on your hands an knees and keep an eye on it. I am surprised VP took that long to get a...

    Engine replacement help…

If they are from a freshwater location no issue using used. We are on an inland lake and unless you don't winterize the manifolds last the life of the boat- our and our friends boats have lasted 25-40 yrs.

    Engine replacement help…

My experience was good there, but this was a new partial engine not reman. Yes there are cheaper ways to do it but if you want to buy and engine and enjoy the boat spend for the new GM base engine. After 8 trouble free years I am glad I spent the extra money on it given how much we use our boat.

Replacing ignition on old 165hp GM inline-6

You may have to use the conversion kit as I am not finding a Delco EST kit ( or at least one that is not listed as obsolete) or a similar sierra kit for any of the chevy straight sixes that were used from 60's through early 80's. My grandfather had a 150 hp version in his '66 Penn Yann back...

Replacing ignition on old 165hp GM inline-6

Yes essentially. Delco est was made by delco and there are many copies of it. Both mercruiser and volvo used the est for many oem igntion systems . you have a straight 6 not a V6 right? I that kit is actually for a V6.…
