    Leak from "Lower/upper shoe"??? HELP!

Since 1939 mercury has been in business and for two years they branded their motor/drives on another company. Both companies (yes, under the same parent corp) are still in business today. Rare, indeed. I implore you to find, seek, take all of your time to find one still operational irl.

    21 Pachanga

Yep, I know the history and branding style that Brunswick did, am a huge fan of American business/pride, You're referencing a couple of the greatest companies to exist in history. Yeah, they tried some stuff and it has lived to make history today. Don't forget that you've tried things and...

Mercruiser 3.0 RPM Drop Every Few Seconds?

Based on provided info I would inspect fuel delivery, mainly focused first on fuel tank vent line then supply to pump. If needed a vacuum test of fuel pump may be in order

Fuel pressure loss on Mercruiser 140

Well, the failing pressure at rpm/load is suspect. Would try fuel pump vacuum test next, no more than 2 in/hg

    Leak from "Lower/upper shoe"??? HELP!

Don't recall flat rate but a guy with the right parts, tools and equipment can easily remove an alpha, tear down and clean completely, inspect, reseal, assemble, pressure test, fill with lube and re install in about 3-4 hours. Without distraction of course. Distraction being the inevitable...

    21 Pachanga

Hi, I read in the mercruiser engine repair forum while being nostalgic about sea ray, mercury and their oyster white sea ray branded alphas that a forum member here owns a 21 Pachanga with sea ray branding. I'm just curious to know what engine the boat has. If said member or any other who...

    Leak from "Lower/upper shoe"??? HELP!

Yep, but start with removing the drive first. There is a lot of good/helpful info in the stickies, top of forum page for your engine/drive package. Take the time to read up a little before you grab the tools

    Leak from "Lower/upper shoe"??? HELP!

On another note there is a 1988 wellcraft in the shop with an oem bravo one coupled to a gen iv (?) 454. Really neat to see an original bravo first year. Unknown if it survived the premium blend gear oil debacle or if it's a replacement, but still kinda cool. Sorry, for getting off topic but I...

    Leak from "Lower/upper shoe"??? HELP!

Sea ray and mercury marine are owned by Brunswick Corp. Yeah, the bowling people In the 80's for a few years sea ray and merc teamed up to brand some mercury alpha systems and outboards under the sea ray name for a few (hundred?thousand?) boats. I've seen a half dozen or so and worked on a...

    Leak from "Lower/upper shoe"??? HELP!

Best laid plans amarite?! It is unfortunate you're having this issue but in fact it's a good thing to have noticed it before you break something really expensive. Stay cool knowing you had zero effect causing this issue, this is just the nature of boating and alphas all need resealing at some...

    engine just quits

2-3 volts seems low for primary coil voltage. Key on engine off should see around 9-10 volts on the positive side. Negative side voltage may vary, like chris I have little experience with the upgrade kits and ime they either work or they dont

    Leak from "Lower/upper shoe"??? HELP!

This is all good advice and I support it. Reason for the post is I don't see a lot of oyster white drive/transom assemblies and looks like you've got a sea ray branded alpha system. Kinda cool and nostalgic and I would ask that you please repair your vessel properly and continue to maintain it...

Setting base timing on Prestolite distributor

No special timing mode is required for your distributor. Just loosen the clamp bolt and adjust timing as needed

Mysterious part in bilge - what is it??

Looks Mallory to me, bakelite n such Prolly dropped from a sloppy tune up at some point. Mallory caps from a half generation ago had issues with machining, cylinder lead tangs were off center causing rotors to break. This may be a possible leftover from that Era. If your engine runs good...

    Valve Cover Breather?

Too much crankcase pressure? If blowing hose off valve cover you should check first oil level/quality. Then make sure engine runs properly, if there's a miss or seems sluggish your issue may be timing related

Battery issue with problem side motor, check start circuit from batteries to helm. Issue could be along that line.
