    After a bit of thought I don't think you would like it. Very difficult to get to the motor even to start it, you have a lot of deck back there..

    I've seen the above bracket used on a transom like yours they have a wedge shaped block behind the mount.. It will steer fine and if you need a sharp turn you can turn the motor as well..

    If you can lay your hands on a bore scope you can get a good look at the condition of the coupler.

    Yep, I got a free boat year before last and spent most of last year tinkering with it... I got lucky with the hull but it still has a way to go..if you like tinkering as much as you like boating then you'll be okay...

    Your better off removing the old tube then you can determine the condition of the transom. You may find you have nothing solid in that area.

    You didn't have the bar in far enough to engage the bearing or coupler. The grease on the larger segment of the bar would have been removed by the bearing.

    There's some indication of swelling around the area as well so inspect for rot but yes the fitting mentioned above would be a good choice..

    Did you clean out the fuel tank? Sounds like you had it running after cleaning the carb and now it's stopped up again.. good luck with the race!

    Yep, hook up your meter to the wires and raise/lower the the drive and watch the meter vary...

    Someone got themselves a nice boat! And you get to turn the page..If it's any comfort I have a Yamaha roadstar with 90,000k on it 20 years old and trouble free. They make great product..

    Well don't beat yourself up too bad, you're probably not the only one.. I wouldn't trust any of the parts left that have coolant passages. Find an old truck engine and convert it to marine...

    My guess is it wasn't winterized at all, cracks in the top of the block to me means it was full of water, I bet you find more cracks.in the valley as well...

    Fasteners thru hull of thin hull fiberglass boat below waterline

    Chamfer the hole a bit inside and out, fill with epoxy filler and fair when dry. Then scuff up the inside a bit and epoxy your mounting block.
