Threaded holes on port transom bracket.

Some kind of accessory, like power steering would bolt up nicely to the fittings. The parts list shows an accumulator, which seems to be Merc's term for power steering. It has the three bolt holes, that look to match. Thanks.

Threaded holes on port transom bracket.

My 1993 merc 135HPV6 has three threaded holes cast into the port transom bracket. These holes are on half round projections that stick out past the transom bolts. The starboard transom bracket doesn't have these. Anyone know what these are for? I originally thought that it was some sort of...

    Yamaha 12 pin remote

A search on yamaha OB controls on Amazon yields lots of 10 pin controls. There are some 8 pin controls as well, likely w/o PTT. A site like Marineengine may have something. Usually, the controls are under the accessories area. You should consult a wiring diagram to see what functions the...

    Checking power trim sender

My Johnny 150HPV6 had a unused brass plug in the water jacket on the head. I removed the plug and added the pressure fitting. Not sure what your motor has, but there is usually a way to do it. Worse case is to tee into the telltale. On my old inline six Merc, I removed the telltale fitting...

    Eska won’t start.

It will be awkward, but, remove the spark plug, put a timing light on the plug wire and give it a pull and see where she sparks. You could also use a drill to turn the motor over.

OK, is the motor an Optimax? What HP and year?

    Checking power trim sender

If you do not have a water pressure gauge, I would recommend removing the trim gauge and adding one in it's place. It is much more useful than a trim gauge.

The Crowleymarine or marineengine web sites should have that info.

    Checking power trim sender

The wiring diagram from my '98 Johnny shows only one white/brown wire. It is for the trim sender. There are several tan wires with various trace colors.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I had the manifold-to-riser joint gasket fail one day in the spring when the boat was on a trailer. This failure hydrolocked the motor. I removed the spark plugs and blew out the water and squirted oil into the cylinders. Then I pulled the manifold and riser and using a piece of plate glass...

    Checking power trim sender

When you put the meter on the blue and green wires, you are likely testing the resistance of the PTT relays. That is why it changes when you apply power to tilt the motor. On my '98 Johnny, the PTT control wires (green and blue) and the white/brown PTT sensor wires share a connector at the...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Gee, I never thought exhaust shutters would let exhaust back into the engine. I had thought they were designed to stop water from entering the engine, when you came to an emergency stop from high speed. Also, My Mercruiser 4.3LX had broken (and I removed) exhaust shutters for some years. A...

    Water in lower unit

Gee, I pressure test gearcases using the fitting from a gear lube pump and a hand pump. It is not usually too hard to find the air leak.

    Need help!

Gee, smell the oil. 2 cycle oil smells like oil or more likely like gasoline. Gear oil smells like rotten eggs. If 2 cycle oil, go boating. If gear oil, you need to find and repair the leak. My 35 year old Merc gearcase leaked twice at the shift rod, in the last 15 years. Easy fix. My 25...

    Yamaha 2022 outboard rigging guide

A lot of service manuals include the rigging guide. My factory Johnny manual has rigging info on page 1-45.

    SPARK PLUG CROSS THREAD

A heli-coil is one option. There are solid threaded inserts as well. Both require the spark plug hole be drilled oversize and threaded for either the heli-coil or the solid insert. Hopefully you have a newer Merc, where the head comes off.

    Camper enclosure

Marine stores like Overton's have replacement OEM covers for popular boats like SeaRays and other brands. I do not think yours's is popular enough for them to carry it, but it is likely worth a try.

Mercury XR2 150 stuggling to get on plane.

Did you ever check the fuel pump diagram for leaks? If it leaks, it can load up a cylinder or two at idle. They often clear up, after you struggle to get on plane.

Mercury outboard no power to engine/ tilt

Did you check the neutral safety switch? Power needs to go thru that on its way from the ign key to the starter solenoid primary winding. If the switch is open (like the motor is in gear), no power reaches the starter solenoid primary winding, and the starter doesn't operate. If that 12.9VDC...
