    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Stop setting your timing it has nothing to do with the idle. First you do a link and sync. And if the motor would not start out of the water without starting fluid that is a problem. Set the carb low speed screw at 1.5 turns out to start. But I will be totally honest with you it is an L drive...

    1977 evinrude 140. 135 strangler

NO NO NO first you pull the heads on the 135 and see if you have the high compression ones. If you have those they are worth more than both motors combined!!!!

    78 Evinrude 9.9

Yes and if the head is not hot you need to look at the thermostat I would replace the impeller and emory cloth the sharp edges off the tube.

    78 Evinrude 9.9

That motor should have water coming out of the exhaust reliefs in about 30 seconds not minutes. If it didnt warm up you may have a bad thermostat time to check that to.

    Best Way to Clean Injectors.-

Oh relax you are always so thin skinned. I gave you the correct answer they need to be pulled and sent somewhere to be cleaned. No mechanic in a PLASTIC bottle is going to help you. But you just sit around until someone gives you the answer you want. Good luck with your motor.

Please advise on first outboard purchase

Mine recomendation would be any OMC 9.9/15 2 strk made from 1980 into the 2000s. They are cheap reliable parts are readily avilable and fairly light.

    91 Mercury 100 won't run past about 1800 rpm

You need to be looking at the bottom 2 cylinders. Yours is a 2+2 motor it runs on the top 2 cylinders until 1800 rpm then the bottom 2 kick in. All 4 cylinders should have spark all the time. The 2+2 function is controlled by the carbs. The bottom 2 carbs only have a tiny idle circuit to provide...
