    very funny :-) but not applicable in my case. The mere smell of oil, carb cleaner, smoke , gas , spray paint or diesel in my winter shop (basement) generates thunder . Even sweet smelling wd-40 is a no no :-(

    ETECs solved it by not mixing oil and gas although the early ones like my 2005 did slip in some oil in the fuel line. That was stopped around 2008 . ETEC in and out ports are CLOSED before the fuel is injected and results in a clean burn meeting EPA standards. None of the inbound fuel...

    if your carbs are truly plugged the source is usually common... fuel related bad fuel stale etc... dirty fuel ( incl crumbling/defective fuel hose) dried fuel in carb passages watery fuel dirty rusty tank and crud etc... incl fuel pick-up , fuel connectors bad / inoperative venting...

    It is my method but it is just " in case" the plug leaks. I only remove the top dime size one... never the small ones ! any gasket type sealant can be used to dab the rim of the cover plug or simple nail polish which will quickly harden and seal. if you prefer do not apply any...

    IF the smoke is a new issue running the engine and you were using the same oil for a long time I suspect chasing synthetic oils to cure the problem ...will not resolve the underlying cause of the smoke and smoke is good :)

    the small float spring is just a helper to pull out the inlet needle in case it is stuck... the needle should....drop on it own under the incoming fuel pressure from the pump. take care of the main issues

    yes ...they are ... good eye but at what stage was photo taken ..?. hard to believe previous owner left them out ! :-( a good test run would have prevented all this chasing ... what else is going to be missing :-(

    skip... you are not missing screws...if you think you do.... post a picture to better explain you point....aside from that, consider visiting a shop to help out. orifices are hidden behing cover plugs and you indicated the engine runs on choke "Rebuilt carbs, new fuel pump. Runs on choke"...

    new to you motor ?? running in cool cold temps.. ??? excessive smoking can sometimes be traces to the purge valve /passages being blocked and may cause fuel oil puddling in the crankcase.

    on the tank side if you pump the push button you will see which is which fast :-)

    side connector inside hose to the side nipple behind the carb is AIR the other is fuel to the carb bowl just follow the hoses the side connector is not the problem... do not reverse the dual hose on the tank.

    Skip... if worried about mail polish to seal the top plug keep in mind it is only there to seal the plug and not much exposed from the fuel as to super glue being dissoveld I have sealed some cork float with no problems..yet some nail polish contain the same stuff used in "air plane...

    and... being no young chicken... the electricals may need a look into if sparks are weak...could be a bad condenser to ! lots of things can go wrong

    your carb has no needles ... see comment " old style carb using needle points to adjust the fuel flow" that was on older carbs you have a small "orifice plug" see #38 and you have a fix orifice on the High speed fuel supply see #35 in post#11

    they look clean "outside" but what about the inside ?? ...did you check the top side idle chamber under the dime size plug. it has 2 or 3 small drip holes to feed fuel at idle and if clogged idles is affected. see video as an alternative to removing the dime size plug at minute 05:40
