    4.3 LX Gen+ Alpha leaking water/oil mixture

Answer, see question Seal(s) most likely dried out. Alpha style drives are notorious leakers anyways As stated, pull the drive, drain and pressure test to find the leak(s)

    3.0 mercrusier oil leak

Its a flare fitting, as mentioned, but does not (if appropriate) require an o ring. The fitting normally seats when the brass trunion is torqued accordingly. The flared portion of the fuel line seats to the intake fitting of the carburetor when the hex style fitting/trunion is torqed...

    4.3 mercruiser knocking

Trying to get the picture here....knocking sound from engine rear area, first notion would be is drive trimmed in full, second would be as mentioned u joint/gimbal bearing, third would be worn flappers metal to metal contact. Does noise decrease with rpm?

8.1 guardian mode at low rpm

First check for me would be gear lube monitor (if equipped). Second would be diagnostic instrument check for faults. WAG at this point, given provided info, would be sea water pressure sender fault. Did you happen to inspect cooling hoses, oil coolers, t stat housing for debris during the...

Diagnosing miss at high RPMs for VP 7.4GL with EST electronic distributor

We can absolutely rely on OPs numbers, they have been verified. Are they okay according to spec? Proven by intergoogle searches. Yes.....or no. The main factor is there is consistent readings from all cylinders, we can now rule out compression/engine lower mechanical issues. Based on info...

No ground in fuel pump relay socket Volvo Penta 4.3 GXI

This info is standard first go to troubleshooting, I agree with everything in this post save for one (maybe two) factors. OP had not posted any Volvo serial/model/product numbers and the wiring diagram posted may or may not be engine specific for this issue. Yes, there are many MEFI controllers...

5.7L 1984, Rough idle at start up, then ok after a minute or so

Welcome, and thank you for the constant updates/info regarding your issues. Helps a lot for armchair troubleshooting when an OP reads and practices relevant info

    Seriously stuck gimbal bearing

Excellent decision, has more uses than merely pulling gimbal bearings

4.3 over heating at low rpm Help

Could be either, test the gauge and if it passes replace the sender first. Only reason I mention sender first I guessing is cheaper

    Maiden voyage rebuilt engine

Number one is don't fret. It's a fresh rebuild and based on what you've said and pics posted I would not worry. As stated, use your boat and enjoy it. Keep an eye on things as every boater should do and remember that your boat is yours, keep it nice, use it and don't let your friends use it too...

    Which Spanner?

There is from mercury an adjustable tool for varying dimensions to remove the cap. Basically a very beefy tuning fork looking tool that has multiple holes at varying distances and pins that allows the user to adjust for the specific dimension. I have never had any luck using the tool and really...

Trim goes up but not down

Most likely a bad relay, there is one for up and one for down. Locate and swap the relays, if the drive goes down it not up you've solved it. You may have blown the main igniton fuse or tripped a breaker when you jumpered the trim pump.

    Maiden voyage rebuilt engine

That is correct, different based on the motor but 25-35 is the specs I've seen. I can count on one hand the number of manifold bolts I've torqued to spec, best is tight/snug but not overtight/ridiculous tight. My guess is the fluid wasn't bubbling up from the area, it settled in that area and...

    4.3L versions

Maybe, there were thirty ish changes to the 4.3L engine over the years. Some big some small, the main issue I've seen is the pto end of the crank had some changes and not every flywheel mounts up correctly Best bet is to find a casting number that corresponds to the one you are replacing

Drive stays in position where set downwards and upwards…but…

Then the reservoir is full, guessing thus is an older system? (Not oildyne) It's possible the fluid is aerated, it happens when fluid is added to a near depleted system. It just takes time and multiple up/down cycles to fully bleed the system. Give the fluid a chance to settle, an hour or two...

Drive stays in position where set downwards and upwards…but…

That valve in the pump assy isn't for underwater strikes at high speed. It is for relief when the rams are at their peak extention in/out. Hence the squealing sound at max extension The relief "valve" you refer to is a ball/spring relief in the piston located inside the ram. It is possible...

    Seriously stuck gimbal bearing

This Get a big one. I use a five pound OTC brand slide hammer. Works great I've never had to drill one like mentioned but I've had to use heat and a threaded rod extension to remove a few troublesome bearings

Drive stays in position where set downwards and upwards…but…

If you can move the drive/trim rams by hand in either direction there is air in the system. The bleeding process is simple, fill the trim pump fluid reservoir with the proper oil to the bottom of the fill hole when the drive is in the full down/in position. Operate the trim/tilt system full up...

    Maiden voyage rebuilt engine

Not at this point, unless there is an obvious exhaust leak. The gasket between the manifold and head only seals the exhaust valve passage and there should be no oil/water present there. In your case my best guess is the material you are seeing is a product of the rebuild/initial running and is...

2003 Mercruiser 5.0 mpi timing spec?

That is swell information, but OP only has a timing light afawk. No mention of runnability issues, troubleshooting, work performed or audio warning indicating a fault. We don't know if OP has diacom, access to it or even owns a laptop. I know that the HVS (flat GM cap) igniton system does not...
