    Maybe an "IAC Whistle", but doubtful it was causing the overheat. I would clean the flame arrestor (remove it and clean it) and check to see if there is dirt/clogs in the duct of the IAC. (can't remember on that year 7.4 how the IAC is set up.) Then see if you are still overheating and address...

    Running in neutral means nothing. (Lots of folks say their engines run great in neutral, and they are right) As the others have said . . go through the wiring and timing to make sure something is not amiss. (We) assume that it was running fine before the tune-up (?)

    My recollection is about 28˚ advance (total), starting at the 10˚ base timing advance. Full advance is at about 2500-3000 RPM. So, your chart is about right (IIRC)

    No, just traditional analog wiring. The CanadaBus (digital) wiring is associated with the engine/outdrive. All fixed though. . . now to start the engines :rolleyes: :unsure:

    If the boat is a 1975 model, it should have the Hull ID Number (aka HIN) molded into the fiberglass somewhere on the transom, usually the starboard side near the rubrail. Knowing the first few digits (letters) will help identify the manufacturer . Would you be able to post the HIN?
