    Trophy 1703 motor choice

Yes, you will loose power, but not that much unless your a speed freak. A number of years back I bought an 18' boat wuth an 85 hp motor, already owned a 70 hp in excellent condition. Trusted my 70 over the unkown 85 even though it ran well. All said and done, I lost almost two mph....wopee...

Older boat/ motor and New Electronics

Just add a second battery, when your done for the day put it on a charger/ maintainer until your next trip. I use a group 31 deep cycle to run everything except starting the big motor. Lights, radio, ship/ shore radio, fish sonar, aereator, bilge pump, horn etc can run all day with power left...

    Winter storage cover

Or...find an inside storage facility, I would never keep a boat outside unless it was a tin rowboat. My boats are nice and well kept, not expensive, but haveing a nice boat that looks good with little effort is important to me at my age. Some things are worth the extra cost.

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

The threads let go, according to Fram the threads were not to Kohler engine specs even though the cross reference matched. There comment was " the cross reference charts are not actual Fram charts". And of course Kohler stated the threads were not a match even though the filter tightened to the...

    Tachometer bouncing

Check the flatness of the head, they are prone to warping. Also check the top of the block for flatness as well. Soak the broken thread with penetrating oil for a couple days, try using left hand drill bits, when they bite in, it often unscrews the broken off threads. Now would be a good time...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Be carefull substituting oil filters, here is my story. Changed oil on my zero turn mower, no Kohler oil filters so did a cross reference and bought the Fram from the chart. After a few mows the filter blew off while mowing the oil came out and the engine seized. All in a matter of a couple...

    Floor issue 21' boat

Can you see/ touch the wood in the transom and stringers or is it encased in fiberglass ? If the wood is accessable, a small blade pocket knife will let you know real quick how solid the wood is.

    Tire size mismatch question

Simple...mount your tire on your spindle, set bearing to proper tension. Now with the axle on a jack rotate your tire and see if it runs out. If it is noticible, time to replace the tire, no way will a balancer correct this.

    Battery charger size needed

They can, but need to be recharged asap. The longer a battery sets with a low charge, it will shorten its life. Even deep cycle batteries should not go below 50% of full charge where an auto battery should not drop below 20% on a regular basis. The LifePo4 can drop down 80% without a problem.

    Battery charger size needed

If my batteries are really low, I go with a 4 or 5 amp charger to get them back up fairly quick, then switch to a small trickle/ maintainer charger and just leave than on until ready for use. If the battery is only 30% or less used ( still holds 70% charge) I just use my maintainer charger...

    Why does everybody hate Force?

Just like Fords or Chevys, what have you had the best luck with ?? Owned a couple Chrysler outboards over many years of boating. They worked OK but never top notch. OMC motors of the same hp would outrun the Chryslers. The OMC always idled much smoother and slower for easier docking. Always...

    25 horse 74167

Don't be afraid to buy a good factory service manual, well worth the cost and can make your motor more valuable when it is time to sell it. I find most of mine on Ebay or flea markets/ garage sales

    Tire size mismatch question

Maintenence us the real key to tire life no matter what name is on it. Been a boater for well over 60 years most all have been on trailers. I can coynt on one hand the number of tire failures I have had in all that time. I have had issues with the best and the poorest quality tires you could...

Just bought new boat, trouble first time out. Please help.

The last sentence is the problem.....when getting a new to you motor, there is a checklist to go over before it goes in the water. First on that list is to replace the water pump unless you know for sure it has been done recently. Next is to change the lower unit lube to check for water...

Pre-project fiberglass boat structural repair planning questions

If the stringers are bad...so will the transom be bad...sorry, but just the way it is !! Your best bet is to do some real testing so you know what will need repaired for sure.

    Tire size mismatch question

When I had my motorhome, GoodYear tires were not recomended nor were Michiliens, both were poorly rated for MH use...however Hankook tires were very highly rated so I bought them, ran true and lasted for years, they were made in Korea, great tires !! Lots of folks don't like Carlisle tires, but...

Thought my boat would be faster

Not to burst your bubble but...I would be really surprised if it wasn't water logged ! Feeling solid as a rock means nothing in glass boats, there are hundreds in junk yards the feel solid. Again, I mean no disrespect....but a 1981 glasser with wood structure issues would have to be stored...
