Overhauling my 1988 Alpha One Drive Train

Is it physically long enough to reach? Are you sure that isn't a cover over the screws on the distributor? Follow the black wire. If that wht/grn doesn't go to the distributor it may go to the terminal block. I'll try to get a look at my system tomorrow The ignition won't fire and the engine...

    1989 vs 2008 4.3 differences

Most things will swap over with varying degrees of difficulty. You'll need to swap the balancer, you'll need new water pump and new intake manifold, a bunch of metric nuts and bolts. I thought the flywheel would swap, but I used the one from my donor. Alt, ps, tstat, exhaust straight bolt on...

Overhauling my 1988 Alpha One Drive Train

The why/grn wire from your distributor goes directly to the terminal block and screws on there. Follow the gray wire from the shift interrupt switch back. The terminal block is pretty close iirc. Edit: oh, I see your issue. The grn/wht should connect to the other grn/wht, doesn't matter how...

Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 1 Project

If it's damaged, just pull it. More likely to screw something up at this point by modifying and then trying to reinstall a damaged seal.

    Strange noise Mercrusier

I wouldn't just *consider* changing the ujoints considering what happened to that gimbal bearing.

Overhauling my 1988 Alpha One Drive Train

I ran into the same issue. Apparently there were 2 different styles of transom plate, one of which doesn't line up with your y pipe. Merc mixed both of them for a while, so they thought it was ok to run with only 3 bolts. A few guys on here did as well with no problems. I also did it.

Engine cut out while slowing down....

Yeah, but it was running. Usually compression loss from worn rings is very gradual.

Engine cut out while slowing down....

Yeah. Weird. If that's the only place it's going. If it gets into the head it could make it back to the block, but you'd hear leaks in the head too (and that's a stretch). Still not sure how you'd be running with those numbers. Wonder if you have broken rings? Again, odd in 4 cylinders. But I...

    Exhaust Risers 4.3 L V6 carburated

Any good write ups on the exhaust system workings? I've seen all the flow diagrams and am still baffled at all the hoses from the tstat housing, why I have separate lines to the manifolds and elbows, where the tstat diverts the flow (seems like not just block/radiator like a car), etc. I...

    Freese Plug

" second guessing myself if i used a wire on all the drain ports."😳

    Freese Plug

It's a casting plug used during manufacturing. Sometimes will come out instead of your block freezing. How likely? @Scott Danforth will tell you to buy a lottery ticket if your blocked isn't cracked

Engine cut out while slowing down....

Didn't you say that in #3 there was a 3 pass sequence to 130? Yes, open. Just to allow air into the cylinders. It will probably end up close with it closed, but will take more cranking. You also won't be able to truly see how quickly it pressurizes. It should increase quickly for the first two...

    Tearing down transom assembly

Yer going down either way. There are vent holes in the transom plate connected to the bellows cavity. That's why getting a lot of water in your bilge is a sneaky way to take out your outdrive, ujoints, gimbal, etc

    Tearing down transom assembly

Only question I can answer there is that the gimbal grease seal isn't needed with a sealed bearing.

Engine cut out while slowing down....

So assuming your "leak down" test consisted of pressurizing the cylinders? Did you hear air escaping? Did you try a wet compression test? You mentioned testing compression warm. Did you try to start it? Those numbers are pretty crappy. Your engine was running, and then had some sort of failure...

Merc 5.7 bogged down under load

Start with fuel. Assuming you didn't change your fuel filter. Do that, and check the contents for crud and water. Did it get properly winterized? Check the oil level, make sure it isn't too HIGH. Don't rev it in neutral, or on muffs. Proves that a V8 will spin when there is no load applied to...

    Electric fuel pump issues

Gotcha, but he already has a relay. Imo better to run it with the relay, though I realize merc didn't use one.

    Electric fuel pump issues

Neither of those pics has a relay. This is pretty close to what you'd need: https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/eventimages/april_99_wiring/600/techecma99_fuelpump.jpg
