    1989 vs 2008 4.3 differences

My mistake,I thought you were bringing the old oil tube over. You already have the correct one on there. Yes, like Scott said bending the tube if possible would be the cleaner solution, but cutting both should be ok as well. Obviously you'd need to scribe some new marks on the bottom of the...

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

Not sure what that means. I don't think anyone in this thread advised that, although it will crank if you jump it correctly. You never answered the questions about getting 12v at the white wire when in the start/cranking position. Sounds like you were in the run position, which should have 12v...

    1989 vs 2008 4.3 differences

Bend what to the side? There's a baffle in the pan preventing anything from reaching the bottom. Merc uses a whole different tube assembly on the newer engines. Although I guess I'm not sure if the new pan started with the vortec heads or earlier

    1989 vs 2008 4.3 differences

At least on mine, the dipstick was shorter than the tube already and didn't need to be cut. The tube extends to the bottom of the oil pan on the marine engine so you can suck out the oil. If you cut the tube you'll need to access the drain plug to change the oil (I don't think a hose through the...

    1989 vs 2008 4.3 differences

That freakin killed me when I did mine. Couldn't figure out why my bolts were stripping out when I torqued them down. Sometimes. And you shouldn't need to cut the dipstick, just the tube.

    Broken serpentine belt

Melted rather than shredded. Guessing the water pump is your culprit.

Overhauling my 1988 Alpha One Drive Train

I wouldn't, and didn't. Saying that it might have been wired that way for him and it might have worked. At least for a while. I'd sooner take the 20k from a plug wire, how about you? I meant how significant is the voltage compared to the current and duration. Not trying to be argumentative. It...

4.3 TKS Repeat oil pressure switch failures

A lot of people add a relay (myself included) when retrofitting an electric fuel pump for this reason.

Overhauling my 1988 Alpha One Drive Train

How significant is that 400v? It doesn't hurt the tach, right? Or the gray wire on the ign amp? I think it's conceivable that he was wired that way without issue.

Overhauling my 1988 Alpha One Drive Train

So thinking about this more, looks like he did have that grn/wht on the coil. So if grounding green through the coil didn't fry anything, it should function properly, right?

    Ignition wiring questions.

When I bought a new replacement there was no clear plastic inside. It was just a metal link isolating the 2 lugs fwiw.

Overhauling my 1988 Alpha One Drive Train

I still can't see chris's post, but I can't find a scenario where the grn/wht connects to the coil unless it's a points ignition. Which it may have been at one point given his coil. OP, you really need to trace your wires completely. Who knows what's going on there. Find out what's happening at...

Mercruiser 170 Pertronix Ignitor no spark

There is no coil pack on your engine, just a traditional coil. Is the starter turning? Do you have 12v to the coil pos when cranking?

2006 Chaparral with Carbureted 5.0 Mercruiser having alarm and limited power.

Replace the filter again and check its contents this time, and/or run off an external tank like Kenny suggested. The oil level was concerning if it was rising (suggesting water getting into the crank case). Synthetic vs dino oil isn't your problem.

    not shifting into forward gear

We don't know if the problem is in the drive or in the shifting controls. This should be the first thing done (and should have been done already).

2006 Chaparral with Carbureted 5.0 Mercruiser having alarm and limited power.

No fuel pressure connection, you'll have to cobble something into the existing lines. Did you *check* the fuel filter contents? Looking for water and crud. Water can for sure cause these symptoms. Double/triple check your plug wiring. Compression test? Overfull oil level is worrisome. Don't know...

    1986 Sea Ray 300 Throttle/Shift Controls

Welcome aboard, we have no idea what you're working on. Might have better luck in the steering and controls section anyway. Whatever it is, you'd probably have better luck with an aftermarket unit. @GA_Boater , think this would do better elsewhere?

1993 MerCruiser 4.3L V6 RAN OUT OF OIL

This happened to me *twice* on my engine. Both times the chinesium pipe nipple I used on the sender sheared at the block. I got lucky, my oil pressure switch saved me by cutting the fuel the first time, second time I noticed the pressure drop before that.

Overhauling my 1988 Alpha One Drive Train

My understanding of his situation was that everything was working at one point, OP disconnected the wires, and is now trying to put it back together. Which means there should be an existing place for the wht/grn wires to screw together. Also, you think it would fry the ignition rather than just...
