Need not peeing on first season fire up

Trace the telltale hose to the cylinder head water jacket. Remove the telltale hose at the cylinderhead water jacket. Start her on a flusher device and see if a strong telltale stream comes out of the elbow.

    Changing remote controls?

Your ignition switch should have power, ign, and starter solenoid wires. Put the purple wires of the kill switch in series with the ign wire. That is, ignition wire from the motor, goes to the kill switch purple wire, The other purple wire from the kill switch goes to the ignition switch.

    Changing remote controls?

Normally on a stern drive, the kill switch would need to kill 12VDC power to ignition. You would hook the ign wire thru the switch in series. the switch must open to kill ignition. An outboard kill switch usually grounds ignition. You would hook kill switch to ground and ign killer wire...

    pulls right at wot

OK, the boat looks to be a pretty normal hull with sterndrive power. What HP are you running? Why no power steering, as I had thought most/all sterndrives had it? There is a fix used on high performance hulls. The kind of hulls where the engine is high enough on the transom, so the anode...

    Tach gray wire short?

I have a '98 Johnny 60*V6, which is real similar. The engine has two 6 wire connectors, giving two 6 wire harnesses. At the dashboard these two 6 wire harnesses are interconnected to become an 8 wire System Check Tachometer plug, a 6 wire plug for the ignition key and 3 ring terminals for a...

    Fuel Leak, center carb

OK, we seem to be talking about different plugs. The hex plug on the front of the carb uses a gasket. The slotted brass plug on the bottom of the carb is a taper fit, without a gasket. The black Permatex (number 2 or 3) is a bad idea. The fuel will dissolve it. Use some nail polish (with...

Issues after impeller change. Gears seem off. Pee's fine now

It sounds like you do not have the upper and lower shift shafts properly aligned. very common issue. Remove the gearcase. Set the control to neutral. I ratcheting sound as the prop is turned CW is forward gear. if so, carefully turn the shift rod on the gearcase CCW, using a crescent wrench...

    Fuel Leak, center carb

The brass plug is a taper fit, and is usually covered with a substance like nail polish. I would first try to tighten the plug. Failing that, remove it and put some fuel resistant sealer on it. Permatex makes some, or you can clean it with alcohol or acetone and put wife's nail polish on it.

Controller Model and Neutral Safety Switch issue

A lot of motors do have fuses for power to the control. They are usually on the motor, near the starter solenoid, They would normally be on the red wire. Of course, if the fuse is blown, it is likely you have a short circuit somewhere.

    Sealant for Gas Tank Gasket

Mine was blue and non hardening. I used it on some fuel sender gaskets, and it worked well.

    1980's Mercury 175 power trim

ARCO and Sierra make aftermarket trim motor replacements. Your 1986 motor likely has a 3 wire PTT motor, unless it has been replaced before. 3 wire PTT motors use 2 solenoids to power them. Newer PTT motors are 2 wire, and use 2 relays to power them. The wiring harness is different, but...

    Sealant for Gas Tank Gasket

Permatex makes one that works for that purpose. "Permashield fuel resistant gasket dressing" is it's name.

    Wiring a 72 glastron v-hull.

If that is the way you want to wire it, that is fine. However, you do not want a 30A fuse going to your lights or other accessories that use a small amount of power, as it is a fire hazard. just so you know, lights are usually 3A or so, radios, fishfinders, GPS are generally 2A or less, a horn...

    Propeller Interchangeability

You should be able to use the OMC prop on your Merc. You will need to find a thrust washer that fits. I used a Merc V6 prop on my Johnny 150HPV6, without issue. I had to drill out 1/2 of the splines, because the Johnny's propshaft splines are a lot shorter than the Merc's I think I ground...

    Thrust washer…..

A lot of thrust washers work with many props. Some work with a few. You should find out if your thrust washer is designed for your prop, and for any replacement prop you may get. I keep props and thrust washers as sets, although it is usually easy to tell if the thrust washer fits the prop...

    Wiring a 72 glastron v-hull.

Normally on a boat like yours, you would have a dedicated wire from the battery (fused at 20A or so), plus a dedicated ground wire from the battery to a front fuse strip. The accessory circuits would run from individual fuses to the accessories. However, I like to run everything thru one HD...

Does the Lower engine mount wear out?

Controller Model and Neutral Safety Switch issue

The neutral safety switch must be mounted where the throttle arm can open and close it. That means it is inside the control. Your first move is to disassemble the control and look for the switch. Perhaps a wire broke, or the mechanical device that pushes the switch to close it is broken, or...
