    Start by doing a compression check and then checking for spark. My hunch is you lost spark for some reason.

    Excellent, be sure to put some grease on the splines when you put it back on....and none on the very end. I take it you just pulled a little harder or put a wedge in it.

    Not sure you can....I don't know that motor well so hopefully you will get more opinions. In more modern day motors it usually means it's junk or someone figures a way to get it apart and then does a Humpty Dumpty!
