Cracked my out drive need help on a replacement

Normally a 3.0 and 4.3 would have different ratios drives - 4.3 would be 1.81:1, 3.0 would be a 1.98:1. The ratios should be stamped on the port side of drive by vent plug. Usually in the sticker and stamped in housing as well. With an older drive these may be hard to read, in that case you can...

    Mercruiser 2.5 120hp ignition help

Sounds like the module is not advancing. Is it stuck in base mode ? Delco est is a good system needs to be locked in base mode to set initial timing. instructions are here https://marineengines4less.com/images/companies/1/EST%20Ignition%20Instructions%20-%20ME4L.pdf?1431462059320

2 stroke vs 4 stroke prop differences

As a rough rule of thumb every 2” of pitch up or down will move wot rpm by about 400 rpm. with the different options in blade size , design, cup etc this is not 100% but a decent rule of thumb

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

Later vortec blocks do not have provision for mechanical fuel pump. So you would need an electric fuel pump and associated oil pressure switch. on a good note this would be a significant upgrade in power 230=>295 hp.. you may find you will need more prop pitch when you get it up and running

Repair Manual for newer MerCruiser 4.5L 250hp

Would agree thermostat seems to be not closing. the guys mention impeller replacement, which is a good preventative item, cant see this making it run cool. Use oem merc impellers vs the cheaper aftermarket ones. I changed mine after six years was in perfect shape…

    Help Please!

Bushings wont help vertical play. On my old pontiac with delco points distributor you take vertical play out by shimming the gear with a kit like this. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mor-26140 if there is no side to side play bushings are fine.

    Lost gearage?

No one is on this site because they have too much money to throw at their boat... Put your gen 1 drive on craiglist, FB marketplace or ebay it will sell. Then buy your drive

    Which Bayliner Runabout - 2000 1800 Capri BR (125hp) vs 2011 180 BR (90hp)?

I dont think you will do much skiing behind the 90. Definitely would need a lower pitch prop for the 90. I used to swap props on my 3.0/135 hp powered boat when we went skiing. Not that much work to do if you are in waist deep water ... How many people to you plan to take out when you go...

Can you use car oil in a Mercruiser 3.0 engine

Yes also a lot of folks will use Rotella conventional oil 15W40. Yes its diesel oil but a lot of folks use it for marine applications and older flat tappet cam engines. It is also pretty inexpensive vs these oils marketed towards classic car crowd. When I replaced my engine with w new long...

First Start of the year and High Oil Pressure

You can unplug the wires at gear lube bottle to see if alarm goes away. If once you change the oil you still have pressure concerns go to auto parts store and by a inexpensive mechanical gauge to can pullout the sender (above oil filter) and screw the gauge in temporarily to confirm oil...

    Tritoon speed verses rpm

Have you verified tach is accurate at 3500 rpm with a shop tach? If you have good hole shot one would think that you are not so over propped you are 3 k low on WOT RPM.... Verify the rpm first then if accurate you need to go way down in pitch. So far down (13" less than now....) it doesn't add...

Belt Size or Part # for a 1985 Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha One Gen One

The coast guard requires a device to shut off electric fuel pumps in the event the ignition is on but engine stops running- engine stalls or someone bumps the key to ignition on (run), otherwise the fuel pump will be running and potentially overfill the carb float bowl etc. So, in addition to...

    Lost gearage?

Likely the post you reference the guy had a older boat with a good gen one and engine and a rotten hull and a another boat with a good hull with bad engine and gen 2. He was likely telling him to do a pulleys to prop swap out for more power ... At a high level/plug and play - A gen 2 wont bolt...

    5.7GXI age/value

Given the fact that it is a seven year old replacement at this point I would go off compression test and oil pressure to asses engine condition. At this point the reman wouldn't have any warranty so its just a used boat with a used engine... not sure if Crownline had gotten away from wood in...

    Trim Pump Fluid

I don't think mixing oils unless they are incompatible will be an issue regardless of weights. You have motor oil in there now so just adding slightly diff motor oil will not cause an issue. Only place I've seen this be an issue is if you are switching DOT3 to DOT 5 brake fluid which is...

    Stalling and Starting problems

It looks like the carb was replaced or at least stripped and rebuilt as an OEM mercarb would be painted black. Was this replaced to correct this condition or for another reason? Would agree you likely have a fuel supply issue. Would check down carb as mentioned take fuel filter off and dump...
