    Stalling and Starting problems

With a fuel pressure gauge stabbed into the fuel line. im sure you can find some you tube videos of it. merc makes a fitting to put between fuel line and carb but its kind of expensive fitting. You can probably scab something together with 3/8 flare fittings and a t

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Pressure test and rotate the driveshaft. If it passes I think you would be ok this year. What do the seals look like- torn dry and brittle? I think to do the seals on the upper you only big nut wrench to get the driveshaft out and a rolling torque wrench to do. Lower may be more involved...

3.0 Mercruiser seems to hang or seize when starting

Start with some basics - compression test- make sure a valve is not hanging up dump a little gas down the carb see if it coughs or runs a bit try rotating the distributor while cranking it to see if timing is off. Would agree with Scott - if its points ignition and has sat for 3 years, even...

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Thats where the seal rides in the upper, seal and dirt in it will cut a groove over time . Thats doesnt look too bad Would probably dress it up with an emery cloth and put it back in. For deep grooves you can put a speedi sleeve over it. some prop shops will repair these by spray welding the...

    Over heat issue

Take the hose off the thermostat housing where the water comes up from the drive bet you have little to no incoming water flow. Get a impeller and kit with body (assuming you have a Alpha gen one drive) , OEM merc is best.

    Ford 302...closed cooling

Full system includes the exhaust manifolds in the af side of system. Half system doesn’t cool the exhaust manifolds with af, they get cooled with hit raw water after it goes through heat exchanger. If the hose that is blowing discharges af from thermo housing to manifold and manifold is plugged...

    Ford 302...closed cooling

Tighten the hose clamp... Seriously have you tried a new hose clamp on it? Is this hose on the raw water side or AF side? If on the AF side is there enough room for expansion? If no expansion tank on an older design run the AF level lower. On older cars with expansion tanks if you top the...

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

I would think those modules plus the 10 deg initial timing on a vortec 5.7 would work well. Might have to do some trials with different total advance but they would land you 32 & 34 total respectively. Should be ok
