Concerned about Hull Config / Cramped Engine Bay

Think about how you’d change a starter or even worse a power steering actuator (up against the transom mount). You can’t even reach the distributor cap! I wouldn’t buy a boat set up like just on principle. But, if someone gave it to me lol the first thing I’d do is take it to a fiberglass shop...

You don’t get mildew between the covers?

    Squeezing more from 5.0L 220hp

And sometimes you will find parts like that on eBay or NLA Marine if the parts have been discontinued. I was able to find almost everything (hard line, manifold adapter for Holley 4bbl) even for my OMC. For Merc it should be easy.

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

Both Merc & VP have used plastic covers that fit over the flame arresters, might be worth it to try fitting one of these, I have heard they can keep water out. Might also want to add a gutter to keep water from running onto the back of the engine. As much as using the cockpit & bow covers is a...

    2012 VP 300 C-A Exhaust manifolds getting too hot - DTC 441 & 442

Yes it could I did see those thermostats and I bet it is because for a cat converter to work it must maintain a certain temperature, too cold and it won’t do what it is supposed to do. An unregulated (full water flow) exhaust elbow is going to run between 100-135* at least in my experience...

Vibration 1-2 months AFTER gimbal and u-joint replacement

There is also a special tool for installing the gimble bearing that is designed to only make contact with the outer race, using the wrong tool can damage the gimble bearing although that would probably make noise constantly. It sounds more like ujoints

Hard line is preferred, if you want to use rubber you should use approved marine line…Sierra sells one you can just buy…

    Timing for 1990 liberator 221 w/454

I wouldn’t think the roller cam per se would make any difference; I’d want to check both base timing and total timing advance @ the specified rpm to make sure it’s in spec. This system was used only a few years & parts for them are scarce. The earlier models with points are easier to deal with…

    100:1 or 50:1?

If all you did was run it with the 100:1 at idle I doubt that caused any damage whatsoever….variable ratio oilers in some outboards did basically the same thing…

    2012 VP 300 C-A Exhaust manifolds getting too hot - DTC 441 & 442

I looked at the cooling system set up and don’t see any way for the flow of antifreeze to travel from the H/E to the manifold & back to the H/E so I’m thinking it must be a half system. Was the boat used in salt or fresh water? If in salt being 10 years old it would for sure be due for at least...

Sharing fresh water intake from one engine to a second engine

That bit of water pressure from the drive moving forward, is not going to push water up 18" and forward approx 30" so that the water enters the thermostat housing. All you need to do is service the impellers approx every 3 seasons, or sooner of local conditions dictate it.

    2012 VP 300 C-A Exhaust manifolds getting too hot - DTC 441 & 442

I’d use an IR temp gun to see what part of the exhaust is actually getting too hot. I’m guessing the exhaust elbows might be getting clogged. And most likely the elbows are raw water cooled. On my old engine I have the Volvo pre Cat Converter style style raw water cooled exhaust & the hottest...

Is it a true full system or are the exhaust manifolds on the raw water circuit?

    Rapid Outdrive Anode Loss

They also sell a large anode that you can hang over the side that adds protection if needed. I didn’t need to use the reference electrode because I’ve never had a problem with rapid anode deterioration but if I did that’s definitely the way to go. A little pricey but worth it…

    Rapid Outdrive Anode Loss

Go on to boatzincs.com they sell a reference electrode that you can use to determine if you have enough protection…my boat is moored in salt but no shore power and the anodes could easily last 2 seasons but I still change them each season…

Are Four Winns know to have strong hulls? Installing a tower

Boat looks great. Same as mine except yours is newer. The hull on mine is still pretty solid stringers and deck was repaired 15 years ago. Thinking of upgrading from the little 4.3 to a 5.7. The V6 is just adequate but very economical, it is amazing how little fuel it uses. The Cobra drive is...

Volvo Penta XDP composite drive maintenance and replacement options

From what I have read, you have to swap everything behind the engines, inner mount, outer mount etc. No easy way to do it. Yeah they are selling it at a greatly reduced price because when those drives break, Volvo isn't supporting them and then you have to put like I said, 6000-8000 per engine...

What age of i/o style boat should I not consider buying?

The V6 is smoother than the inline 4 and is a good choice for boats from 17' to 19'. Bigger than that, you'd want a V8. I always thought the GM 3.0 four cyl needed a balance shaft even more than the 4.3! The older ones like mine (pre-1992) have the even fire crank but no balance shaft, they are...
