Ram 5.7L hemi engine tick, misfire cyl 3

I’ve read of these problems for a long time having owned a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7. I have not had cam/lifter problems though. The earlier run of the Hemi starting in 2005 had some problems with dropped valve seats but not a lot of cam problems. On the next revision of the Hemi...

1991 4.3 OMC Oil and Water

Sad to see that with such few hrs. I have the same engine in my boat. Mine blew both HGs about 6 years ago but it was likely due to an overheat 3 years before that. I got the water out of the oil fast (salt water) and was able to save it. Installed reman heads because the originals were cracked...

    2005 Rinker Captiva 192 - should I stay away

I actually really like that style of boat and wish US manufacturers would build boats like that in that size. All we get here are bowriders (poor in rough water, not really safe) dual consoles (better but still not what I want) or center consoles (only good in warm weather regions, not North...

    2005 Rinker Captiva 192 - should I stay away

That P/S ram is about a grand but that’s not the worst of it….some boats you can change it with the engine in place some you have to pull the engine. I did the one in my Cobra last year and it was no fun. Removed rear seats and both exhaust manifolds. Then got to deal with the 4 cotter pins from...

Trim and tilt problems on 5.0L

When I do mine I grease it with the engine running on the water hose that spreads it all through the bearing because that bearing turns whenever the engine is running.

    2005 Rinker Captiva 192 - should I stay away

The biggest issues due to age are wood rot in structural members and availability of certain engine parts for ignition and EFI if so equipped. If not built well to start (glassing structural members) and/or left out in the weather in a damp climate it could have lots of rot from 17 years of...

Trim will go down not up IO Volvo Penta

I would check all the terminals on the trim relays it’s possible they got wet & the one not working got corroded. Might have to take ‘em apart clean the terminals with contact cleaner or fine sandpaper if really bad. The blue wire is up & the green wire is down…. That or the relay might be bad...

Trim and tilt problems on 5.0L

Are you referring to the grease fitting on the side of the transom mount? That’s to grease the gimble bearing. The only way to grease the ujoints is to pull the drive which should be done every season for inspection.

Running 5.7 without choke on quadrajet?

Was your auto choke not opening? Here I would keep the choke for reliable starts in cooler weather but yes you can run a Q jet with no choke. These old style divorced chokes seldom need anything more than a good cleaning of the choke valve and shaft and choke linkage. After many years you MAY...

Unusual oil consumption? VP GM V8 Vortec 5.7

I'm thinking that some of the variance in these is because of difference in the pressure relief valve & spring in addition to the gauges not being 100% accurate. Perusing some owners forums of S-10 trucks that all used the 4.3 which is very similar to the 5.7 they report 60 at speed, 40 at...

Unusual oil consumption? VP GM V8 Vortec 5.7

Mine has always run that pressure (approx 60 psi) with the boat up on plane, 3200-3600 rpm let’s say. Never had a problem!

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

Other uses of balance shafts included the Mitsubishi 2.6 inline 4, the Chrysler 2.5 inline 4 and the Porsche 944 inline 4. All of them were large 4 cyl engines that tend to vibrate & shake more than smaller displacement 4 cyl inline engines. PS For 6 cylinders an inline 6 is very smooth compared...

    '95 OMC 5.0L fuel line

Well that’s a problem that believe it or not I have not had yet even though mine is a good bit older. I would post it up in the VP section because those models are really the same as Volvos. Might be seals in the trim rams or the pump. Any leaks from the trim rams?

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

I see a bit of rust on the throttle blades and the underside of the casting. Water in the fuel too? Might be the smoking gun In any case I'd put the intake back on, spray fogging oil in the cyls, crank it over carefully and do a compression test. You might get lucky as it is only fresh water...

Unusual oil consumption? VP GM V8 Vortec 5.7

He said it doesn't. Too bad that would have been an easy fix! Normally on small block Chevrolets even with an old engine with tons of hrs on the short block like mine they will be at least at 20 psi at slow idle (600 rpm) with a hot engine even after coming off plane. Over 800 rpm I am back up...

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

What GM did was an inexpensive way of creating a 90* V6 using existing V8 tooling. This was done due to the energy shortage in the '70s because all they had was the Buick V6 built a few years earlier and the old GM inline 250 cu in six. They did it with the Buick V6 creating the 231 cu in V6...

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

What's interesting in your pix is that the water passages in the cyl heads have LESS rust than the intake ports, and your intake ports are a lot more rusted than my old ones were. So I'm still suspicious that it came in through the carb.

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

This is what mine looked like when the water got in from the HGs, after cleaning most of it up, notice the cyl head intake ports don't have rust in them, not like those in the pic above (remember salt water engine here). If you look close you can still see some of hte milky oil
