Should I buy a 115 hp Johnson built in 2000?

60* carb versions are real good, provided they have been cared for.

    98 Mercury 150 running issue

Your carb idle mixture adjustment is likely too lean. Open the mixture screws 1/8 turn and see if that helps. using the trial and error method, adjust all six mixture screws until she accelerates well, and still idles. Of course, this supposes that you have mixture adjustment screws. Not...

    1970 115 Tower Of Power

You will want the Mercury brand service manual. Not sure where to get it, but you can try Mercury Marine, Fondulac, Wisconsin Parts diagrams may be shown on crowleymarine web site. Not sure they go back that far, but that motor should have lots in common with il6 motors up to 1978.

    Quit on the Water!

The ignition system on that Fastwin is not all that expensive to replace. They were used for many years, and are likely made by Sierra and possibly GLM, if OEM is too costly or NA.

Floor reinforcement for fiberglass river boat

Adding plywood would add some strength, but not much. A center stringer, and a plywood deck over all three stringers would be stronger. A frame, gunwale to gunwale would effectively cut the length of the stringers thereby adding strength, but you would need to step over it. Not much in the...

The water drain holes I don't understand

Haulover inlet is real challenging. I saw a 30 footer stuff it's bow and crack the bow fiberglass well above the bow eye. Also, larger boats take water over the bow. Narration says to go faster to keep bow up. Has no one ever thought to trim motor up?

    1971 two stroke Johnson

Look for exhaust leak under cowling. Powerhead base is likely culprit. Also, my Merc had a rubber tube for exhaust relief. It ran from powerhead base thru cowling. When it leaked exhaust into cowling, engine would not run well.

    Quit on the Water!

That motor would have twin magnetos, right? Inspect them and look for cracks in the coils. If you find those, replace the magnetos. If no cracks, ign system should be good.

1962 evinrude needle valve assembly on carb

I do not remember what my big twin had, but most needles have springs on them to keep 'em tight. You could also use teflon tape on the threads to add friction. Be careful not to let it get into the carb.

    Looking for guidance please

Gee, I would suspect the ign is failing at it warms up. You might check spark quality, when she starts to sputter.

    Prop swap lost 10 mph

You didn't raise the motor on the transom, or install anything near the prop on the hull, right?

1993 Astro bass boat 17 ft with a 93 115 hp Mercury 2 stroke. Over revving

Match mark the prop housing and the hub. Dump her in the h2o and see if the marks move. One piece props are real hard to tell if they are spun. The modular prop hubs are easier to tell.

    Mystery vibration

Hard turns can stress the u joints. Also, does the outdrive tough the transom mount in a hard turn? I get a little vibration when my OB is trimmed all the way down. it might be the same cause.

The water drain holes I don't understand

A lot of boats have bow thrusters built into that area. They are open to both sides of the boat, but sealed to the hull, otherwise.

    2017 Merc. Temp sensor location.

Aren't they all on the cylinder head? What does the crowleymarine parts pictures tell you?

    no reverse?

Gee, why not repost this in the MerCruiser forum and tell them big block Ford/Mercruiser drive. Did you check the shift boot, if you have one? Corroded cable can restrict their movement, and the rest of the linkage can bend a bit to cover it.

    Polyester resin cracked while curing

Sand it down and glass over it. The new resin should fill in any exposed cracks. I always fill over the cloth. Why did you fill first?

Fuel gauge not working on Palm Beach

Gee, there are 3 parts to a fuel gauge, Sender, gauge and wiring. The wiring is easy to check. The gauge requires ground, +12VDC and sender wires, that are clean, tight and supply the correct signals. First check: Grounding the sender post should make the gauge react. If it doesn't the...
