    One manifold hot (5.0)

I actually tried going from a 160 to a 140. Found condensation in the manifolds so went back to the 160. When I had the heads off 5 years ago found no evidence of salt build up in cooling passages

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

Let me take this moment to mourn the loss of the supremely reliable mechanical fuel pump on late model Vortec engines….I replaced one…after 30 years….for $80….I can get either the OE Carter or Sierra for either price. In fact if I repower with a V8 I am thinking of going with a Pre...

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

That’s hard to say really. You might need a 15x13 for that boat. What’s the length & weight? Looks big in the pic! My 20’ Four Winns weighs about 4200 lbs when I had it weighed a lot more than I thought. It didn’t perform well with the 14.5x19, wrong for the V6, better with the 15x17, but the...

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

a couple of points... 1) if you have an advance timing light for setting base timing at idle speed (the advance timing light can be used to check base timing as well as total timing advance) make sure that the dial is set to zero, or else it will throw off you timing setting 2) check your idle...

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

That’s basically it, you will need a crowfoot wrench to reach the bolt for the clamp that holds down the distributor so you can loosen it to turn the distributor

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

Does Bayliner have a chart that lists what props were standard with various engine options? I know Four Winns did, that's how I knew the 14.5x19 was wrong for the V6 but OK for the V8s. Here's the meter I use, and I have an old Sears Craftsman advance timing light.... Here's a pic close up of...

Some of my light reading, dating back to 1972. The internet is fine for certain things but for a broad base of knowledge and understanding, it is not. All you get are bits and pieces, not real understanding. And you'll never be a good mechanic without understanding. So now start surfing ebay for...

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

If you get a manual & read it through this will all make sense. This is what’s bad about the internet no one reads manuals anymore so people don’t know basics like how ignition systems & carbs work. If you don’t know how they work it’s hard to fix them right…

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

well I don't know if you can go lower in pitch than that so you need to look for other causes for the low rpm....because that's way too low and is causing a lot of engine strain every time you pull the boat up on plane, like trying to start up in a manual trans car in 3rd gear. as in... make...

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

Here's your tune up specs: idle speed 500-600 rpm in fwd gear point gap 0.018" dwell angle 30*+- 2* timing 8* BTDC spark plugs Delco MR44T gap 0.035" I would also check total timing advance with an advance timing light at the specified RPM to make sure that the centrifugal advance is working...

Taking boat into salt / brackish water

If I had room for a display that large I would agree it would work fine but on the small boat I have there just isn’t space. It’s important for people to realize what happens when you change the size of your viewing area you lose hazards like rocks & wrecks. Not possible with conventional charts….
