    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

Point gap determines how long the coil is saturated & therby the strength of the spark . Under the point plate is the centrifugal mechanical advance. This uses flyweights to advance the timing as rpm goes up & springs to retard it as rpm goes down. If they are stuck by rust you won’t get full...

Going from surge brakes to no brakes

While that might be what they say this really depends on what tow vehicle you have. For example I’d never tow 3,000 lbs with no brakes with my old ‘98 Grand Cherokee, the ‘07 Grand could do it because it has much better brakes.

4 flat 7 wire trailer connector

No you can combine the 3 white ground wires & connect to one terminal and the 2 brown running/brake light wires & connect to one terminal and that leaves the yellow (left blinker) and green (right blinker). You’re combining the multiples of the same color wires.

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

timing is setting when the #1 spark plug fires, in relation to top dead center, it is adjustable by turning the distributor which is normally held still by a clamp, idle is just the idle speed. I think you need to get a factory shop manual it will be very helpful. Start reading on how basic...

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

Keep in mind that it is a pressure balance system, water takes the path of least resistance. Sooo....if that other one starts to clog, all the water will got out the one you're fixin' now, and that one will get a lot hotter. Just monitor it but might want to do both and be done with it. Just...

Taking boat into salt / brackish water

Yes I heard that and got some extras. Unless you have a really large GPS display, I feel paper charts are much easier to read and understand.

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

I have used Permatex Aviation you can get it at auto parts stores. Make sure that the sealing surface of the manifold is really cleaned up flat & level, you can do it with a mill bastard file or a belt sander. Then lay a straight edge across the top & see if a .003” feeler gauge fits in...

Taking boat into salt / brackish water

Just saw this interesting thread. I would not worry much at all about the effects of salt water given the use you describe. However coastal boating with tides, rocks & sandbars requires knowledge & caution. I still like paper charts because when you zoom in on a plotter or GPS, guess what...

Points are not a bad system as long as you know how to use a dwell meter & feeler gauges. Auto shop 101.

    One manifold hot (5.0)

If you want decent quality made in USA aftermarket exhaust use Barr Marine. I used them on mine and they fit perfect with no leaks. The paint doesn't hold up great on my salt water mooring so I painted them with Rustoleum. I orginally had the OMC one piece V6 exhaust manifolds like Merc used...

    One manifold hot (5.0)

Well it could have been in the salt but I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I have a lot of experience with salt water use & what I’ve found is that you can get a good 15-20 years of use from the engine before troubles start but the exhaust system needs replacing (at least the elbows) every 5-7...

    One manifold hot (5.0)

The problem with cleaning out rust from the passages is that the rust….USED TO BE CAST IRON…. I look at manifolds & elbows as consumable items due to salt water use….

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

Ok here is a Prestolite points distributor. To adjust you need a set of feeler gauges and a dwell meter. Put it on the dwell meter with the engine running (+ terminal goes to - on coil, - terminal goes to ground) and see if it matches the spec for you engine. If it does, then that's not the...

Oil in gas/water in cylinders 94 Volvo Penta 4.3

You take apart the manifold and elbow, and check the sealing surfaces for flatness after sanding them smooth with a sanding block. Use a straight edge and feeler gauges, there should be no more than .002" variation across them and no pits in the sealing surface. If there are pits the gasket...
