Not really, see below
exactly water gets in gimbal bearing and needle bearings in ujoints , rusts input shaft causing a leak… may work now but let that moisture corrode the bearings over the winter and it wont work next year.
Leave it alone until you do bellows. you can squeeze up in there and get them but i think you will wish you left it alone before you get done with the job.
there is a youtube video out there of someone who does it without removing bellows ifyou search for it
would pressure test your drive to...
So it is more rpm related than I have it at WOT but am at 4k rpm and accelerating ? If so then I would think you are tapping the rev limiter. I am a life long motor head and it surprised me the first time I hit it on my 21 ft'er w/5.0.
If you see it at lower RPMs when under full throttle...
My thoughts- not sure who is giving you this advice of 100 hp gains and 60 hp gains doesn't seem to now what rpm a marine carb runs at. Seems like salesmanship more so than sound mechanical advice...
What 800 cfm carb is recommended - Jimbo has a 650 on his 5.7 that would essentially be the...
91 is the change over year between gen one and two. My 91 boat was a gen one as the driveline was a 1990 manufacture
Post pictures of your drive or drive serial number
at least someone was honest about what was wrong with it. Just make sure the deck and head are flat before you go back in. With a machinist straight edge. Reason being as mentioned above looks like someone was in there doing head gaskets already… prob overheated the **** out of it replaced...
Certainly buy what you like and are comfortable with… i see a lot of comments like this but here is what i ve liked about my sea rays and certainly a big part of why i bought another- they held up extremely well in terms of gelcoat finish, upholstery, and hull solidity/ construction.
my first...
im with bondo im always amazed what decent used running engines sell for.
another option get a 96 and up 5.7 from a truck out of a wrecking yard . Change core plugs to brass or stainless, marine head gaskets, freshen up rings and bearings if needed.
strip your 305 accessories put them on 5.7 you...
mine will seem like a popping for sure when i hit it. If you don’t know what it is or not experienced could be confused with a back fire easily. Big difference between a lean condition is the boat will run perfectly until 4900 + depending on tach accuracy
If the cam isn’t flopping around you r good
The screw is a flat head with about a 1/4” dia head not sure how mine loosened up by basically wouldn’t idle until it was tightened back up
if you have an issue with the carb or contaminated fuel you need to take those items apart clean them and reassemble. Running seafoam through a carb wont clean it out, just like topping off bad fuel with new only makes more bad fuel..
Do some diagnosis and see what's going on.
Sounds like some of the passages in the carb are plugged probably the transition circuit, if you mash the throttle and that helps seems like accelerator pump is working.
As Bondo said fuel filter is a good annual maintenance item - check what comes out of it. With mositure and sitting typical...
I suspect its probably a lean sneeze. if you haven't done much to it would start with a compression test to verify good mechanical conditin. certainly verify timing and empty contents if fuel filter into container and see if there is anything other than clean gas. What do the spark plugs look...
Normally that shouldn’t make a difference With such a minimal altitude diff. Would suspect you have a fuel delivery to carb or carb rebuild issue.
if you slowly advance the throttle does the problem occur or only if yiu stab the gas.
what is the maintenace history of boat? Would start with fuel...
