    Correct prop

First verify your tach is correct. You want to be in the 4600-4800 rpm range at wot. What are the specs on these props as if RPMs are accurate neither of them are appropriate for the application. is this a new to you boat what is the overall maintenance situation with the boat. If it is down...

Hydraulic Lifter Volvo Penta 4.3 Vortec

If there are no vacuum leaks on the intake leave it. Not ideal but I've reused them before in a pinch (when doing things twice...) if they are in good shape...

    Removal of broken head bolt

Is part of it sticking out once you remove the head? On things like this and exhaust manifold bolts if you can get at a stub of it and apply some penetrating oil and heat you may be able to get it out. If there is enough of a stub I put a pipe wrench on the bolt after heating it. If broken...

    What is this battery for?

Would assume front battery is for a trolling motor

    Upgrading, or downgrading?

Agreed- I think the 4.3 MPI /220 hp would do fine in a 19 ft boat, I just don't think it makes sense to go up only a foot and the kids will keep growing. I went from a 17-18 ft Bow rider to a 21 , that was a nice upgrade. Also to OP your use sounds similar to mine- I wouldn't trade my full...

    Merc 4.3

Yes has been my experience as well 4.3 vortec in a up to about 20 ft works well.of course more power is nice and every boat line has low buck 3.0 or 4.3 carb 5.0 in a bigger boat price point offers. 4.3 has proved to be inexpensive durable and powerfull. way more power per engine size and wt...

lots of people dont own or want a trailer. Marina puts it in the water in the spring, takes it out in the fall, winterized, and stores it. if you are diy type then u need one.

" Prosessing " a donor boat. Best way?

Most of the value is in the running gear and helm controls. If you can use the seats sure why not typical back to back seats - I imagine you may need to make new bases for them but this is simple carpentry, helm seats are even easier. Parting out cars I kept too many items that had no to...

    Cracked block leaking water

Exactly no sense welding a common casting like this. We used lock n stich on a mill casting at work that is probably better than welding

    Merc overheating…

Yeah you probably cooked the exhaust rubber. May have hit a plastic bag or other debris blocking water flow. Would take the hose off the thermostat housing where water comes up from the seawater pump (belt driven) start the engine briefly and see if you get any water coming up to thermostat...

alpha 1 Gen 2 sterndrive broken lower drive shaft

You have had the exact same results with two different gear ratios so I don't think the ratio is the issue. If you did switch from 1.62 - 1.47 that would only drop WOT rpm like 400 assuming you were propped correctly before so may have sent you from the top top bottom of WOT rpm range..but you...
