Alpha one gen II growling noise when turning

all of it sounds normal, just some exhaust shutter noise the prop shaft play is normal, i have some play in my drive and trim cylinder bout a half or full inch. In the water it is gonna be pushed forward under load so not sure if thats new or not on mine was the whine captured in the videos?

alpha 1 Gen 2 sterndrive broken lower drive shaft

My first thinking is the boat weight not necessarily power level is at the upper limit for the drive. Might be worth a call to merc tech support. I assume none of the bearings locked up? keeping up with lube changes?

alpha 1 Gen 2 sterndrive broken lower drive shaft

Under his photo - 1998 2452 Bayliner Cierra Express 5.7L alpha 1 gen 2 I think we are thinking the same thing- 24 ft is pretty big for a single Alpha drive ? wondering given the OPs photo if lots of trolling is involved?

Long cranking after sitting 1-2 weeks Mercruiser 4.3

Carb bowl can dry out during sitting. Fuel pump doesn't run to refill bowl until starting cranking, unlike injected engines where fuel pump primes when you turn on the key.

Alpha one gen II growling noise when turning

Getting to be a long thread apologies in advance if this has been has been covered... Did you run it without the drive to see if noise is still there? I'm assuming it won't be but easy to rule out... I think you were left with checking the input driveshaft bearing or upper until bearings...

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

In addition to manifolds, carbs, throttle brackets, fuel pump & lines, I suspect you will need a carbed wiring harness and ignition system like TB V or delco est. This may make the ecu replacement look less expensive than it feels now… i assume lightning strikes arent covered by insurance...

    Trim

As Scot said your relay is clicking and pulling in but contacts are not working, so you have two issues the up solenoid needs replacement your trim limit switch needs to be reinstalled and adjusted to cut off trim when the cylinders are a certain length (find it in manual), that is why trim...

Running boat on land with no prop?

This probably says more about the muffs you are using than muffs vs a tub. As others have pointed out u want to ensure your tub has the drive well covered in the water you are probably 6-8 more water above what you have pictured here

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

You only need the earlier two piece rear main seal coupler and maybe a different starter this coupler works with the earlier two piece rear seal https://www.michiganmotorz.com/mercruiser-hub-style-coupler-1985-earlier Starter - there are only two chevy patterns (regardless of engine...

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

Didn't catch that you are correct. If RPMS are verified then you are down to prop damage or coupler

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

A 2000 would have a replaceable hub prop - I dont think they tend to slip like the older pressed rubber hubs Would verify the prop is ok and hub not slipping, also run with hatch open to see if there are signs of coupler slipping.

Stupid mistake: Can it be fixed?

I would drain it out, take starter and alternator off open clean and dry them. They may work may not. If you have a local starter alternator repair place may be worth taking to them drain oil - you can likely suck the water off the bottom of the pan and change the oil /filter Once you get it...

You said returning to the slip - have you verified prop is not damaged and hull is clean and not waterlogged?
