What is this on the transom?

The only two things on the hull that are visible, are the Drain, and the Pitot Pickup On my SX 195 the Pitot is mounted on the Starboard side, and a bit closer to the Centerline, the Depth Finder Sensor

    Winterizing: Fuel in tank options?

The premise of a Full Tank, is that there is less Air going in and out of the Tank, during temp changes, dragging moisture into, the tank, where any Alcohol in the fuel absorbs it. In the 40s and 50s fuel didn't go bad as fast, that changed when the Gasoline Robber Barons found ways to get more...

    Engine ID

Okay I can see them when I lighten the image, and they are on the OPs pic, so I was Wro....., er Mistaken However I will stand on the Cowl/clam shell being an 85 as the top stripe still shows that ugly brown that was only used in 84 and 85

    Engine ID

This is from the 1985 Brouchure, the V6s of the day, no vents, or Louvers on the Cowls, except on the XR2, and they were in front of the Brown stripes. The 25" shaft was available in 1985

    Engine ID

Well, the Cowl is from either 84 or 85, the only two years that had Brown in the Decal. However, the 84 had a different Transom Bracket, so that would narrow it down to 1985

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

At least the smarter Boaters were being careful and keeping distance, not breathing each others Snot. Anytime someone, especially if not masked, got within 8 ft of me, I would commence with a few shallow coughs. That usually would send them scurrying, like Cockroaches exposed to light, to a...

can someone help me identify this motor

It certainly isn't an Electramatic, first pic confirmed that. As mentioned, that 2 tone paint certainly makes the Vintage, and Model a guessing game, until more info. Racer is likely close, by 61-62, the Trailer Lock Clamp on the Port Transom Bracket/Clamp was no longer provided This should...

    Props, so many options

Props vary considerably when it comes to blade shape, blade area, rake, cupping, venting, material, even casting/molding techniques. Only when two props are from the Same Lineage/Model/Series are the results truly predictable. Change Brand/Model and it becomes an Apple to Oranges comparison.

67 Johnson 40 HP electric shift wiring

The 67 Brochures say the Lark/Electramatic Models have an "Emergency Starter Rope". Looking at the pic posted showing the Recoil. WTF happened to the Generator Pulley? The recoil doesn't look like it will be of much use.

Good for you, cause a lot of people don't. Maybe they could also use a Horseshoe somewhere for luck

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

Torsion or Spring Axle makes no difference if the axle shaft drops close to or lower than the underside of the ramp. Trailer would need to be lifted Vertically before it could move horizontally. Of course some will just just back up a bit more and take a run at it. I have witnessed that a few...

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

Most Single Axle trailers that fall off the edge of the ramp, need a complete rebuild, or more often, need to be replaced as the Brute Force method of yanking them out, destroys them them. A Tandem or Triple Axle, may suffer less trauma, unless all the Axles go past the end of the ramp. I always...

    Plastic Tanks are All Junk

Some people think 'Overtightening' is somewhere north of what you torque Wheel Nuts to. The old Adage, If enough is good, more is better, and too much, is just right, comes to mind

When you trim up and the Rpms increase, does the boat speed also increase? You mention a Rev limiter, have you ever hit it? If not, what is the highest Rpm the engine attains with the 15" prop?

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

Years ago, I was at a small lake that had an hard packed Gravel-Sand ramp. I often launched there, and one day I was watched a guy with a 4X4, loading a boat, smaller than mine. He was was spinning all 4 wheels, going nowhere, just chewing up the Ramp. I backed my one wheel drive RWD car down...

    Electric Engine Conversion?

The weight of all the batteries needed to have a run time of more than 5 minutes, would likely sink the boat

Instant power loss @ 3/4 throttle

If the tach is out to lunch at Higher Rpm, perhaps the engine is revving much higher and you are experiencing things like Valve Float, or maybe a Rev Limiter, but I don't think engines had them back in 89. I asked, because you say it has great Bottom End Torque. In my eyes, small engine don't...

Instant power loss @ 3/4 throttle

What yr is the Motor? Is the Tachometer accurate? What is the WOT rpm range for the Engine? What kind of 4bbl, Q-jet, Carter/Weber/Edelbrock? Is there any interference/contact between the Throttle Cable and Linkage with any wire going to or from the Ignition System?
