    The little square pump was first used in 1968 on the 3 hp.----It was modified to be used as a vapor extraction pump on the 60 degree motors.-----All years use the same diaphragm.----Simple easy stuff.

    I have seen a few of the plastic gears that had failed on the V-6 and 3 cylinder motors too.

    ??--Belt tensioner has nothing to do with this.------There is more than one cam bearing.----If the head is warped and machined true again, the cam bearings will not be lined up any more.-----Would result in the cam flexing.

    The green hoses come off the little " vapor separator " pump I believe.

    Was given a 90 HP 4 stroke motor.---A 2005 model.-----Dealer took head off the inspect " leakage " of some sort.------The corrosion in the water jackets is beyond belief.----Dealer sold owner a new motor and did not even want to keep this 2005 motor for parts !

    ??----If you machine the warped head to be flat.-----The cam bearings will no longer be in line when head is installed.

    Sorry------I missed the part about the rebuilt lower unit in post #1 .----I worked on these motors over 50 years ago.----They are easy to repair / get running properly.

    You don't think it is jumping out of gear !----But it is a common issue on them.----I can not touch your motor.----Up to you to do some inspection.----Lower units are elegantly simple to inspect.

    Your video is not clear.----Have you opened up the slow speed needle to get rid of possible lean sneeze?----Checked gear shift adjustment ?----Possible jumping in and out of gear.----Throttle plate opening too early will make them stall out as well.

    The head is likely warped.------When you machine the head gasket surface , how does your friend deal with the cam bearing bores ???

    Just fit the flywheel on the key and torque to the correct value.

    They all sound / run great in neutral.-------Nobody can see / feel / hear your motor.----Post video of it running on a boat.

    1977 Evinrude 85 hp w a 140 carb?

    I believe the 77 model 85 is a smaller bore / displacement powerhead.-----Intake ports are smaller I believe.------Not sure if adding bigger carbs will boost power..-----Installing the " bubble " exhaust manifold may require disassembly and machine work.

    Male and female rubber boots, tool and steel pins that wires get crimped in.

    Any BRP boat shop will get you those parts.---evinrudeparts.ca----Be happy to help you out.

    18 hp Johnson no spark

    I have tested many condensers !---Found bad ones.----And I have often heard people say----" my motor is hard to start "----Or----" it is a 2 stroke and they are cold blooded and hard to start "-----Most motors when it good tune start right up if you have strong spark.

    Remove lower unit and try the starters again.----Your battery has been load tested ?----Battery cables tested / checked ?
