    New to iboats hello..

Those were good motors, as a kid I remember skiing behind one on my Das old 16' Lyman, in fact it pulled two of us without a problem. Today they claim you need at least a 75 hp to get a skier up....not built like they used to be....

Johnson 55hp 1979 snapped bolt after following manual. Why?

Another tip is...when threading bolts into a blind hole, you should clean out any crud in that blind hole that could cause the bolt to bottom out and snap off. I always clean out the threaded hole and run a tap in there to be sure the threads are good. This little step can save lots of broken bolts

Johnson 55hp 1979 snapped bolt after following manual. Why?

I believe you made an error here, the 1/4" x20 tpi is considered a course thread, the 28 tpi is the fine thread

1966? Evinrude Big Twin 40 help

There is a saying among the boating industry, " the most expensive boat you will ever own is the one you got for free".....in most cases this proves to be true !!!

Evinrude 35 vs new Johnson 30?

Unless something is wrong with your 35 why bother?? Biggest difference might be a couple mph at best.....if your motor has issues then an upgrade might be a good idea. Either way your dealing with a used motor so anything could happen. The motors made in the years you have were considered to...

    Up or down when trailering

Whether it is up or down doesnt change the stress factor. A motor that cant bounce up and down while trailering is what reduces stress!! I tilt my motor up to get about 16-18" of ground clearance for the skag. With it all the way down I have about 12" which would be fine as long as I dont have...

    Up or down when trailering

With it down do you have plenty of road clearance??? Is so then no problem. Most folks tilt up to give more road clearance!!

Just lower thectrolker untill it is comfy, if you move into really shallow water you might have to raise it up again. Prop should be at least 6" below the top of the water

Centering boat on trailer (solo) without trailer guides? or DIY guide advice

Save the headache and put sides guides on thetrailer....I just sold my 22' Islander as it was getting to big for this 73 yr old to handle. I had a full roller trailer with side guides, just walk the winch strap out and snap on the bow and start cranking, boat centers itself without touching it...

Converting from vertical 2x4 to horizontal 2x6 bunks

Just think about going with 2x4 rather than 2x6, going with simple 2x4 will more than double the load area you now have. Treated lumber isnt necessary, just dont coer the bunk on all sides so the water can drain out from the wood. The quicker the wood dries, the longer it will last. My jon...

    Proper Castle Nut Installation

Sounds about right...in simplier terms I have tightened the nut with pliers while spinning the wheel/ tire until there was slight resistance then backed off the nut to the next hole for the cotter pin. This proceedure has served me well in over 50 years of trailering. Bearings will get warm and...

    boat storage

Having tour boat slipped is very convienent, however it allows all the nasty growth to attach to your hull. Antifouling paint helps but it just adds more maintence. In my younger days I moored my boat but the constant cleaning drove me nuts ( yes I am anal about keeping my boat clean). I ended...

Help identify this boat. Updated bigger pictures

Just a shot in the dark here, but many years back and yes I do mean many...when I was a young lad my folks had a small cabin along the Portage river. Numerous boats operated on that river abd I worked at the local marina. We had an odd looking boat come in, similiar to yours called a "Bock"...

Those foils are a last result, or should be....adjust weight, trim whatever you can do to get the best results, if all else fails then the foil can be used. When I bought my 22' years back the previous owner had a "fin" on the outdrive because everyone thought he should... After my first...
