    Quit on the Water!

The 'M" is an OMC Trademark. The coils may have already been replaced, doesn't mean they haven failed. But now you have access and can meter them for Shorts/Opens, as well as inspect the Points. Coils that fail when Hot, aren't all that healthy when cold either. But heat them up with a Hair...

Evinrude 35 vs new Johnson 30?

The 35 is indeed a Crank rated motor, and the 30 is a Prop rated motor. There is a 99.99% chance that they produce the same power. Even if there was a 5hp difference, that would be about 1mph less

    Carburetor Issues, Dripping Carbs...

What kind of float is in it? Hollow, shake it to see if you can hear any liquid inside. Solid, apply pressure on it to see if any fuel squeezes out. Or just get a new Float. Also a new Needle and Seat, and Gasket for the Seat, and make sure it is tight.

    1991 20HP Evinrude no acceleration

The Proper Pitch is one that allows the Engine to run within the Engine's WOT rpm range, usually preferred to be in the upper half. To determine that, a Tachometer is needed. What is the Proper Pitch for a 14ft Car Topper, is not going to be the Proper Pitch on a 20ft hull.

    New to iboats hello..

Once you rebuild and reinstall the Carb, you have to make sure the Synchronization between the Timing Advance and Carb are correct. These are from a 50 yr old 3rd party Service Manual, one of the better 3rd party manuals

    OMC and Johnson powerhead question

They are both Loopers. However they are different HP so, that makes pairing them up iffy. A lot of Parts in/on the powerhead could be different. That includes the Block, Carbs, Induction System, Exhaust Tuning, to name a few. A very thorough look at the Parts Lists of both will need to be done

    Up or down when trailering

If the Engine can be Imobilized by either a Lock, or Hydraulics, then up is fine, if the engine can bounce around, then a Transom Saver can be used. If the motor is immobilized, and I mean immobilized, by Locks or Hydraulics, do not use what now becomes a Transom Breaker

    WOT rpm range

I have found that within a given Prop Line, the differences in Top Speed are less than 2 mph, unless the rpm is outside the WOT Range. Switching Prop Lines, and that includes Brand, you will be starting with a New Anchor point

    WOT rpm range

If the engine had a RPM range of 5500-6000, the Rev limiter is not going to kick at 6000, it will take a few hundred more rpms before it does its thing
