Disconnecting the fuel line, let engine burn gas ?

I know the Clearances never changed between the 63s and 64s. In 64, OMC was still recommending 30 Weight Non Detergent Oil, or an Outboard Oil, likely the same stuff. They didn't market the TCW stuff until about 1966. OMC did notice a drop in Warranty Claims of Damage caused by Preignition after...

Disconnecting the fuel line, let engine burn gas ?

The only real differences on most Evinrude Models(18/20 and higher HP) between the 63 and 64 were, the 64 had Tin Plated Pistons, and the Auto Chokes used Hot Air, rather than Warm Water. A few of the small engines had changes to the Bearings to allow 50:1 The 100:1 mix required the use of...

What is this guard around the valve spring?

Is that boat sitting directly on the Trailer Frames, as in no Bunks?

    1984 Evinrude 25hp mounting

A 4" Setback is minimal, but you probably could raise the engine an extra 1/4" higher, not that it would really matter. Raising the mounting height of an engine doesn't really offer any speed/handling improvements until 45+mph

Prop diameter effect and planing trouble

Merc's High 5 was popular with Skiers and other Watersportsters. It has 5 small blades, and doesn't appear to be all that large in the Diameter. With 1 weak cylinder, you are effectively running a 4 cylinder engine, as the power of the 5th is being used to carry the dead one. If it takes a...

    Slow etec 50 hp

Smaller Diameter, may mean less Blade Area, and while it may increase the rpm, it can also increase the % of Slip. A lot of Prop Lines have the dia getting smaller as the pitch goes up. I rarely worry about Diameter, preferring to let the Prop Engineers do that. Is the Engine in Good Shape? Good...

    Slow etec 50 hp

Welcome to iboats What is the WOT range for your engine? If you are currently above the range, more pitch might give you a small increase(between 1/2mph and 1 1/2mph) in speed, along with lower rpms and slower Hole Shot. That is assuming you were putting higher pitched Viper. Changing to a...

Need prop help with new boat

Rev Limiters don't come into effect until a few hundred Rpms above the top of the recommended Rpm Range

    Adding 100+hp. Would you re-prop ?

A boat in that size range, will respond much better with the Larger Displacement, and get on plane and be a 1/4 mile down the Lake, while the SB is still raising the Bow.

    1984 75 HP Mercury

Some, but not all Nozzles, may have what is an Emulsion Tube in them. Since both of your carbs are the Same, either they are supposed to be like they are, or someone has messed with both. I think it is the Former. I can't find it as a Service Part.

    1973 65hp Triumph Temperature Probe

That would be the Thermal Switch for the Overheat Horn. It is not cheap, about $170. Lower down on the Head there is another Thermal Switch, with 2 wires, that one is for the Thermo Electric Choke

    Modern Engine Thoughts

The only people who make money on a Repower, 4 stroke or 2, are the ones selling the new Motor. Repowering can be considered Maintenance

    Modern Engine Thoughts

I suspect that having a 4 Stroke with the Crankshaft Vertical creates some problems regarding having the Oil being flung around in the crankcase, especially in the lower part of the Case.

    Plane issue

At 5 mph, there isn't even any water being Disturbed by the Boat. Even at 10mph, the bow isn't going to rise much, it at all on a 22 footer. If the engine is tilted up for Shallow water, I guess the Bow might rise a bit, when power is applied
