    Model # of this motor ?-----How did it run last season for you.----Not making enuff power.------Do a compression test.----Post the numbers.---Possibly only running on 1 cylinder.----Do a spark check.----Check flywheel key.----Make sure carburetors are clean.---Check lower unit oil.

    It is a lot of work to make the switch.----Easiest one is the 25" to the 20" if you have the 5" spacer for exhaust housing.

    ??-----Just looked at the 1968 model listing.----It shows a MQL model.----That would be the long shaft model.----Easy to convert a short to long with a kit.----So yes , they are somewhat rare but they exist.

    The cover is plastic.----Plastic is not a permanent material.----Easy fix with a new cover.----The electric primer valve was a wonderful item first came out in 1980 and could not be improved in my opinion.

    Yes , that is how a manual release valve works !!----Model # of your outboard motor ?.-----Sounds like a stuck / bab check valve in the trim system.

    Model # is required.-----Some of these do have oil pressure on top of the tilt piston to bring motor down.

    Brodman----Are you sure you can see the pistons on this 1993 motor by removing the 1 exhaust cover ?

    Water must be 6 or 8" above the impeller.

    If that is the prop you were using then try your other prop.

    Motors also need the correct prop .-----Props " attach " to the motor but " fit " the boat / type of use the boat gets.

    Tried another prop ?----Could be the rubber hub slipping.

    Water pump should have been replaced.-----Thermostat tested.----Carburetors should have been cleaned.

    Just tested a 2 cylinder motor like yours and got 150 PSI and 145 PSI compression.----And I know my gauge is good / accurate.

    I believe that air pressure is pumped to the main oil tank.----That pressure keeps the small oil tank full.----When motor is not running air pressure is bled off via that open fitting that goes nowhere.
